Garmin talk

So........did a search on these words to no avail, is there a way to save the favorites file in case one needs to reset or downgrade SW version thereby losing all personal data and favorites? I'm aware the personal data will have to be reset but what about the favorites file?

Ok, today my POILOADER informed me:

For bragging rights (or to prove your addiction to custom POI's ... how many custom POI's are you currently loading?

I'm not talking about number of POI groups ... I'm talking about individual POI's as reported by POILOADER.

Come on, can anybody beat 87,269?

Sorry if this ahs already been answered...but my Nuvi 755T has no traffic service in Vancouver...according to Garmin, Navteq's only Canadian service point is Toronto. Is there any way to get service? I have lifetime traffic on my unit and I can't use it up here.

Can anyone offer any advice or opinions?

Haven't spent much time with you guys for a while. Recently move to KY, and found my Garmin GPS hasn't been close for many POI or general address loctions since being here. Any ideas why ?

Did a search here, in POI Factory, but didn't come up with any hits.

Have a Nuvi 650, and am off to NYC for a few days of touring. I have downloaded some NYC POI from the library here and set the GPS to "Pedestrian".

My question is this. I have loaded POI's onto a micro sd card for use on my 265t unit. Everytime I power it on I am aked if I want to transfer those POI's to the unit. I have to answer no. My 680 gives me a choice to "not ask again". Is there a way to not be asked each time I power on the 265t? I want to keep them on my micro sd card and access as extras only. Thanks,

This subject has probably been beaten to death, but I was unable to find anything when I searched the forum. So here goes:

I have a Garmin Nuvi 205. My laptop has a Linux operating system so I can't use POILoader. But, since the Current.gpx file on the Garmin is merely an ASCII file, can I create a properly formatted Current.gpx file on my laptop and copy it onto the Garmin?

I have no experience with a gps.

I am borrowing a friends garmin c330 and hopefully taking it to costa rica.

How do I get a map for costa rica and load it onto the gps?

Is it as easy as finding a file online and putting it on a SD card and popping it in when we land?

Or are there a lot of other things I need to know?

I would appreciate any help and guidance.

I am new here, I read the FAQ section and did a search but I could not find an answer to my question.

I have a Nuvi 350 and have added the restareascombined POI file and icons to my GPS. However, there are times that I am not using it as a route and would like to see the rest areas on the map while driving. Just not alerts when getting close.

Is this possible? if so how?

FYI. I was able to connect my 265wt to my computer as a hands free "headset" device and use it as the speaker and microphone for Skype.

Connecting it to the computer was a bit a tricky. I'll detail what I did but all steps may not be necessary.

1. Put the computer in discovery mode.
2. Have the nuvi search for new devices.

I am a complete newbie, so if this is a bonehead question, please forgive me.

When adding a Favorite location, I see no place to enter a comment, eg Suite number, name of a contact person, how well they tip etc.

I do see room for a phone number, but we are limited to numerics.

Is there something I am missing?
