Using a 265wt as speaker and microphone for Skype (or basically a hand free device for your computer)

FYI. I was able to connect my 265wt to my computer as a hands free "headset" device and use it as the speaker and microphone for Skype.

Connecting it to the computer was a bit a tricky. I'll detail what I did but all steps may not be necessary.

  1. Put the computer in discovery mode.
  2. Have the nuvi search for new devices.
  3. While computer is still in discovery mode, also have it search for new devices.
  4. Computer finds the nuvi and asks for security code.
  5. Enter security code "1234" on computer.
  6. nuvi finds and connects to computer.
  7. Done.

At this point the nuvi behaves like a hands free bluetooth device for the computer.

Bluetooth to your desktop

Good find, Thanks

My computer has bluetooth via a little usb dongle that I leave plugged in all the time. It sticks out the side about 1/4 inch.

Its this one:

I picked it up at Office Depot I believe. I use it with a bluetooth mouse and it will talk to my phone too (for some things).

It puts a little bluetooth icon in the tray (lower right corner). Double clicking that icon pulls up some config stuff. One of the tabs on there is "Options". One section in this tab is "Discovery" and there is a line with a checkbox next to it that says "Allow Bluetooth devices to find this computer". Putting a check in the checkbox and hitting apply makes the computer discoverable via bluetooth.

Make sure once the connection is made that you go back and remove that check and hit apply again as leaving your computer in discoverable mode is a rather large security hole.

Thanks for the details!
