Garmin talk

I have visited Fort Myers Florida lately (1 Month) Every time i was on Us 41 (Tamiami Trail) i was told that there was traffic and the screen change to that dark Grey color that Garmin chose.For people who live in Fort Myers they already know that there is lots of traffic on 41. There is always lot's of traffic on 41.

Are the POIs that come installed on a Garmin integrated with the POIs that I download from POI Factory? Say that I am looking for the nearest McDonald's, will it look at both the downloaded POI file and the resident POI files and give me the closest of both files combined.

Couldnt find this in search, but thats no surprise. I was wanting to know if the red light cameras will work if you just have the "display map" activated in a nuvi 855 without actually having a route programmed or activated. I only use the gps on a trip but was wondering if I just started out and pushed the map, no particular destination, if the red light cameras would show up and warn.

Well, it looks like my 3-year-old-this-month nuvi 660 has bit the dust. DANG

After doing a lot of research, I was unable to find definitive info on the required sound file format for POILoader and the Garmin 1690. In the dearth of info, I experimented and discovered the following:

After we go by Washington and take I270, 4 different times my Garmin 765 and also Map Source want me to take I270 Local to the right. This just slows us down. All we have to do is stay on I270 witch eventually brings us to 15.

To who should i report the error, Garmin or Navtech

Ps: Try it in MapSource and at line 16 to 20 you will see the error.

I just received my new 295W... I have been trying to logon to my home network, but it's just not seeing it... I have a D-link Extreme N wireless router... the security key is like 35 digits long... I've entered it twice, and especially the second time, I'm sure it's correct... when I push 'connect', I get a rotating 'busy' type icon, but it never connects... any ideas...?

A friend just bought a new 1390. He updated the maps and installed Mapsource. Although he can see tracks etc. in Mapsource, the maps did not appear. Is this normal?

When I updated my maps for my 855, it downloaded Mapsource and the maps were stored on the computer as well.

On my Garmin 1490, I am having similar problems with the new Garmin update in POI transfers. Final step is not working---Initializing transfer. Means no transfer period of POI factory material. I'm afraid to try similar transfer on the 350 in case the same thing happens. What's the problem and how do I get back to previous POI program that works?

Okay, I have a dilemma... First a little background: I am using a Kenwood DNX8120 in-dash multimedia unit with Garmin map interface. The built-in map is 2009 so earlier this year I updated to 2010 map. It came as an SD card that I cannot load in to the unit, the SD card has to stay in the machine to load and read the updated map data.

Hi Folks. I'm trying to remember how to update the red light files to your Garmin? Specifically, where are they? I can't find them.

Am recommending this site to a friend who is a Professor downtown and gets nailed by the app. 5-7 damn red light cameras on his way to work and back every day.

I just bought a Garmin nuvi 255 in addition to my nuvi 660. My 660 will show a red bar accross the top whenever I encounter a redlight/speed camera, etc and will announce my mp3 file (Warning red light camera). The 255 will not. It only beeps once and has a small gray dot. Is this specific to the 255 model?

Avast has found, for the 2nd time, a bit of malware in TTS Voice Editor. I do have TTS Voice Editor installed and I've used it several times without a problem. Now Avast doesn't like it. If memory serves, the first time it complained about v2.84, this time its 2.86.

I just finished installation of a software update to a Garmin 855 that is one of several Garmin GPS units we have. After completing the update, the unit displays that it has Software Version 4.70, GPS SW Version 2.90m, and Audio Version 2.60.

I installed the new POI loader, after loading the POIs and then turn on the Gps, it used to tell me that new POIs were loaded. It would then ask if I wanted to keep them. Now it does not do that. And when I go to "my locations & custom POIs" it shows me all the old POIs I had on the GPS and then goes into a second listing of all the new and old ones I had on it.
