Garmin Nuvi 370 not large enough..

It has, I suppose come to the point when both Garmin updates will no longer "fit" all of Europe and North America on the 370! I had a devil of a time getting out of the problem trying to. I finally contacted GARMIN regarding the above, and they said they are "working" on the problem. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how was the problem resolved, if it ever was?

I love my Garmin Nuvi 370, I use it in Europe often and in the US just as often.

Delete all unnecessary voices, vehicles, and help files. That should give you some breathing room for now.

Also, split some of the maps, and load them on an SD card.

already taken off much that was not being used...I will try again, and thanks.

Did this happen to you too?

No, it hasn't happened yet as I have 8 gigs total on my 775T. But, I have deleted all the crap not required on it. For me, it's just good 'housekeeping'.

Install the remainder on an sd card

Agree with juggernaut and canuk

SD cards are cheap now at about $10 for a 2GB. So, regardless of how he gets both continents (separate downloads or one big download), he should split it by continent, load one continent on the GPS and load the other continent onto the SD card.

I did suggest this earlier.

However, just to add to what has been said, transferring the gmapsupp.img file to the card would free a lot of space on the unit.

nuvi 370

I have the 370 also and subscribed to the lifetime update for both Europe and North America. So far, I have never encountered any problem installing the updates Last update was 2011.30.

I have deleted the following unncessary:
voice files
help files
language files
vehicle files

POI files are kept to minimum only the necessary once are on the unit. All other pois are on the SD card as well as additional maps.

but I feel that Garmin should develop a fix for this. The sheer fact that it came with both, was the very reason I got it. If I had wanted to have Europe on an SD card, I would have saved the cost difference and bought the 360 (have 2) and bought the SD for all of Europe. Am I wrong or...?

The solution Garmin provides may not be what you want. The easiest way to address your issue of getting "everything to fit" as it did in the past would be to strip features from the update. Now the 370 doesn't support a lot of the features found on later units and the same maps are loaded into both.

Nuvi 370

I recently bought the lifetime maps, loaded north America first no problem. when I loaded the European maps, they did not show up in map info. I then reloaded only central Europe and had no problem but I still have 1.04GB of space so I don't know why all of Europe didn't load unless its that much bigger. I also have a 4GB sd card but I have to figure out how to put maps on it.
I also enjoy my 370

Problem splitting a map for Nuvi 855 for SD card use

I need to split my City Navigator® Europe NT map into 2 parts because of a problem with the maximum file size which my Nuvi software version can access (2GB). I've tried doing this using GMAPTOOL. The Nuvi will recognize the new smaller map in Tools. When I try to use the Where To function to enter a city in Europe (I'm in the USA), it does not allow me to switch to a different country (only different US state) I can't use the new map. Is there any easy way to split a map that you know of? Any help would be appreciated.

Nuvi 370 map limits

The Nuvi cannot read a file (any file) larger than 2G bytes. This is a hardware limit, no software update can fix it.

You have to split one or more maps between main and USB storage.

The current NA map is 2G. So I can load the whole thing onto the 370 intact. When it grows larger than 2G, it will have to be split into two pieces. The EU map is 2.5G and growing, so it has to be split.

MapInstall is the only program that can easily let you define how to split the maps and do the loading. Of course, you have to start by using Garmin Express to download the updated maps. Garmin support wrote this procedure for me last year:

======
Unfortunately, even if you got a larger SD card you will have to "split" the maps between the device and the card. This is because that older device will only read map files up to 2GB in size. The Europe maps are over 2.5GB. Please follow the steps below to correct this issue:

1. If possible, insert the SD card directly into the computer. If not possible, go ahead and insert the SD card into your device.
2. Please make sure your device is plugged directly into the rear of the
computer (if it is a laptop, please connect it to the side) bypassing all USB hubs and external devices. This includes bypassing keyboards and monitors.
3. Open "Garmin Express" from your "Applications".
4. Click on the "Device" tab.
5. Click on the "Reinstall" sub-category.
6. Make sure the Europe maps are highlighted. They will have "EU" in the name.
7. Select to "Change Coverage".
8. Select a region of Europe that fits on the device.
9. Below the list of regions, there is a button that says "Device". Please change it to "Device and Mac".
10. Continue the map update.
11. Once the update is complete, please download and install the
"MapInstall".
12. Run "MapInstall" from the "Applications".
13. When it asks you what device you are saving to, please select the SD card (NO NAME) and continue.
14. It will eventually show you a map. Please highlight all the areas
that are not already loaded to your device.
- It does not hurt anything to accidentally select the same spot
twice. So, if you if a spot is covered then you may want to go ahead and
select it. Just please keep the data less than 2GB.
15. Continue the update to load the remaining maps to the SD card.
=====

What I'm looking for right now is the technical details of the map and key files so I can delete all current maps before loading the latest. Map Install does not allow for space occupied by existing maps - it only goes by the "free space" value. Plus I want to adjust how I split the maps.

I confess I have gotten in the habit of only loading one map at a time (NA or EU). Since I always travel with my MACbook I just load up where I'm flying to. Much simpler than fiddling with the map splits to get both loaded at the same time.
