Garmin talk

Hey everyone,

The documentation says if you hit the power button for two seconds it will sleep and the battery will last about a week. Is the same true that letting the screen timeout will do the same thing?

We took a trip the last three weeks and we tried looking for food along the road. Nearly every place to eat that we tried to locate on my C340 (which is probably 7 years old but regularly updated) was closed or gone.

I have aGARMIN NUVI 3760T and would like to charge it at home. I found wall chargers at Amazon, but some of them say not compatible with my unit. Can I simply just use a micro USB charger from one of my cell phones? I think it says 5.1 MV (or whatever).Kind of hard to read though.

Just note that some 855 owners--me, for instance--have an 855 that suffers from repeated near-random reboots when in use. Still, for $85...

Woot's shipping is not especially speedy but if you're open to waiting a bit, I've never had a problem with Woot.

I just attempted Ghayman's "Oh give me a home" easy poi exercise. I failed. It's too funny actually. The alert does appear when I am almost to my house, but instead of playing "home on the range" I hear "zoo ahead". Now, I'm not saying that our house isn't a zoo, but I want to figure out what I did wrong.

It looks like everything is named correctly.

I just bought a GARMIN NUVI 3760T and last Garmin got me. I updated the maps 4 day's before new ones came out. Anyone know what is the latest map is, and is their another one coming out any time soon? I have 30 days to get my free map!

Corrected an issue that allowed Traffic Ads to display after Navteq Premium subscription had been purchased.

I just gave my wife my nuvi 765t to replace her older Magellen RoadMate 2000.

Even though the Garmin is heads above the Magellen in most every way, the one item she still wants is the "DING!" tone that her Magellen plays when you are at your next turn or exit. She kinda tunes out the spoken words of the GPS while driving and relies on that tone to bring her attention back to the GPS.

I was unhappy with the limited voices supplied with my Garmin GPS. After a call to tech support I was happily suprised with their offer to send me 4 addition voices which I have used.

So, I have always had several cell phones that I can just switch around at will. The bonus of having a phone that acted like a slick little Garmin GPS was good too. But... in the case of the US, T-Mobile based Garmin A50, aka the Garminfone, it seems like a huge mistake.

I would like a Garmin, or PC mapping application, that would allow me to choose scenic highways. So far, no luck. I keep a atlas on hand and have to choose way points. Anyone have recommendations...be kind .

Has either Barnes & Noble or Borders been looked at recently? I note that both are either closing stores or looking for a buyer.

I would like to do a hard reset on my 1490LMT. How do I do the reset? what files do I need to back up? and how do I back them up? Please point me to the already created topic if one exists. I did not find it if it does? Thx

The myTrends feature on my Garmin 3760 kicked in recently, exactly 4 weeks from the date I started using it.

In addition to predicting my intended destinations based on day of week and starting time, the routes it now suggests follow my usual pathway instead of stubbornly sticking to the routes that it used to suggest.

I visited Garmin's website with my 750 hooked up and My Garmin said that there was a software update. So I downloaded it and when the installation had finished I checked my version. I now have (GASP) 4.9.....hey wait a minute...that's the version I have been running. Garmin didn't say which software it was updating, I just assumed it was going to be the OS.

Anybody having problems with their 1490T taking a very long time to calculate a route to the destination. Not sure if it is having problems figuring out where it is after turn on or just needs a long time to process the info. Not sure if it is pulling data from the memory stick or internal device memory.

Today as I was driving, my nuvi 855 kept displaying an error message "Check Traffic Receiver" or similar. The message took the whole screen and would only clear by touching the error message to acknowledge. Then five seconds later it would repeat.

I have no idea what to check the traffic receiver for, and it was too dangerous to fiddle it while driving, so I shut everything down.

I was reading Gary Hayman's articles on creating custom poi's. He has a screenshot of the gps unit that shows a red bar instead of a green bar at the top of the screen. I have written a few different poi"s w/proximity alerts, but I do not get a red bar on any one of them. Does anyone know if the red bar is model specifc?

I tried to update the maps on my Zumo 450 today. Garmin tells me my unit is registered to someone else. I bought it on Ebay and have no way to contact the previous owner to have them delete their registration on Garmin's site. Is there any way to update this thing?
