Scenic Highways

I would like a Garmin, or PC mapping application, that would allow me to choose scenic highways. So far, no luck. I keep a atlas on hand and have to choose way points. Anyone have recommendations...be kind smile.

you are in luck

Take a look at

http://www.madmaps.com/

this company is also featured on Garmin's web site.

But ...

unfortunately, the Madmaps Garmin download is not supported on the OP's nuvi 255W.

Yeah, it's a minor thing

We can select highways or not, but can not select the scenic routes. Maybe it will happen in the near future.

I was traveling north from the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway and no routing option in my GPS kept me on the BRP. There definitely needs to be a "scenic" routing option.

Zumo Users

That's one reason motorcycle riders buy the more expensive Garmin Zumo models. It is fairly easy to plan scenic routes in MapSource, with shaping via points that don't appear on the GPS map and are not announced, to keep me on a certain road, like the BRP. It still requires advanced planning, as all non-interstate roads and 2 lane highways are not scenic.

Rand McNally's web site last year because they have a "Road Trips" section that highlights attractions along scenic drives. I see they also have a link to a product they sell called "GPS Travel Guides" that says you can "customize your Garmin gps." You might want to take a look at it. But I'm sure their are other, free route guides out there, too.

It you're looking for something different, Roadside America lists "offbeat tourist attractions" by state.

Need to make a route

In order to stay on scenic routes, you need to make your route with numerous waypoints on the scenic route.

It works.
