Garmin talk

I've never used any other nav systems than Garmin's. A few years ago, I upgraded from a Nuvi 360 to a 765T. Bigger display and more features, but satellite acquisition noticeably slower. Routing changes also seem to confuse the 765T more than the 360.

It seems crazy to spend $80 for lifetime map upgrades (my maps are out of date)so I started looking at a new Garmin in the LMT version.

Could use a bit of help here from my POI brethren.

I have uploaded the speed camera POI file but all I get is the beeps, not the wav file sound I also uploaded.

What I did:

1. Downloaded the files (POI, bmp and wav)

2. Made sure all 3 files are named the same. (No double extensions)

3. Uploaded with POI loader in manual mode. Speed set to 0.

Talking with a friend via email right now that has a 1300LM. It doesn't display any categories under his Favorites. He an attempt to fix it he did his updates and did a hard reset and still can't get it to display any categories under Favorites. It goes directly to the saved locations when he taps Favorites.

Any thoughts I can pass along?

I haven't ever seen anything else other than the one line 'Custom POIs' under the 'Where To? - Extras' icon.

Anybody know what else can show up here and how it gets there or is it just a wasted step to get to the POIs?

Me again. What are the recommended jpg file sizes for attaching to my favorites?

I am almost afraid to aske the second part of this post, since I searched and found quite the long list of comments on the subject. I want to copy my favorites to my mom's gps, what is the best way? They are both 255W.

This may be a strange question, but my hand held Garmin Colorado 400c has a Sun and Moon rise/set tool which comes in very handy and is used for my job all the time. My Garmin Nuvi unit doesn't seem to have this function. Is there a newer Garmin Nuvi unit that has this function or is there a way to load it into to my Garmin Nuvi?

Does anyone know if the McDonalds POI's would show if they have Wi-Fi or not?

Where can I buy a Garmin GPS 3790LMT that is not too expsansive. Any suggestion.

Anyone know where I can buy a fuse F3AH 250V (that is the # that is on the paper attach to the cord) for the power cable that fits into the cig holder. I have a Garmin 855. Seems like the battery is not charging when I use it in my vehicle.

I just attempted to send a route from each Map source to my GPS. Mapquest allowed me to send the route, but I can't find it on my GPS.

Google will only let me use business names and only as a destination. This does appear in my favorites.

Am I missing something?

Did anyone else notice that the track highlight color is no longer yellow when you select a track? My previous version did highlight the selected track in yellow so it was easily visible amongst all the other tracks. The latest version has the selected track highlight color the same as the other track colors which makes it very hard to see the track.

I just bought a used Nuvi 1350 with GMT25 lifetime traffic car charger. My wife currently has a 265wt (same GMT25 traffic adapter). My question is: Is there any difference between these units? They seem almost exactly the same to me?

I've just created (combined really) a single POI file separately for each of the following:

1. Menards, Lowe's, Home Depot.
2. Aldi, Dominick's, Jewel, Trader Joe's, Whole Foods.
3. Blain's Farm & Fleet, Mill's Fleet Farm.

Building supply and Farm are no-brainers, They are neither densely packed nor mutually exclusive.

Apparently Garmin is really upping the ante regarding their annual map offerings, I don't know if this applies to the incremental updates for you lifetime subscribers: (The following was copied from Garmin's website)

We are making our map data even better! The North America 2011 map update is scheduled for release in late April. Check back to order a map update for your product

I found some details on the way Garmin names map files. This may help folks who are trying to fit new, larger map sets on older NUVIs or when creating map sets with a variety of maps.
