765T broken headphone jack

Hey everyone,
I have a 765T that has a broken headphone jack. Apparently, the solder joint broke, and is in a spot where my friend doesn't feel comfortable trying to re-solder, due to the placement of it. With it broke the way it is, it no longer works with headphones plugged in, or normally. No sound comes out of it, even when headphones are unplugged. I use this on a motorcycle, so I have to get the sound inside a helmet, strong preference to ear-bud style headphones.

It was a refurb unit, that only had a 30 day warranty.

So, my question, could I use some type of USB (or mini-usb)headphone adapter? You know, those things that would plug into the USB, and then has a headphone jack input. Would that work? Or is a Bluetooth headset my only option?
Also, I don't want to buy a new gps, as this one is absolutely perfect for everything I need...except it's missing sound!

How would I go about getting this fixed properly? That is my last resort, backup plan I think.

Thanks a lot to anyone, and everyone that has a productive idea.

.

You could take it to an electronics store to have it soldered, or, just use the BT function.

Does the bluetooth feature on the Nuvi transmit directions and music to a headset? I thought it only worked with phones.

.

No music or directions, AFAIK. Just the phone. I had to re-read the OP's post. Duh!

But, thanks for catching my mistake!

FM radio

Can't you use the FM function?

don't think a USB option would work...

...since I would expect there to be a driver needed, and I would be amazed if Garmin provided built-in support for that scenario. But, if you have one you can try, it might be an interesting experiment.

andy1's suggestion of the "FM function" -- which I assume refers to using the FM transmitter to allow audio to come through on the radio -- seems like a viable option to me. Although: I personally have gotten poor results (poor quality audio) from using that as an option.

Final thought: if you end up deciding that the Garmin is useless, appeal to your friend that he "couldn't do any more harm to the thing anyway!" (or Juggernaut's suggestion of going to a specialty electronics store might turn up someone with better skillz?)

Jim at sharcnet repaired my 660 a little while back which developed a non-responsive touch screen. Great service, quick turnaround. Send him an email - sharcnet-usa@sharc.net

cool cool Yes if you have a A2DP Bluetooth!

I Have the BlueAnt T1 Rugged A2dp Bluetooth and it can and will play both direction and music through the set from my 765t as I do it all the time, a very nice feature indeed. audio books or whatever. Will not disturb others if they are sleep or listening to music or such.

Get the blueAnt or a good A2DP headset with good battery life.
