The Quebec government has doled out $3.9 million dollars in fines since August to motorists caught by photo radar and red light cameras.

The most effective radar location is at the southbound 15 near the Atwater exit.

Nearly 8,500 drivers have been caught at the site since the summer.

Is it just me? Last Saturday took I-19 almost to Green Valley, no Cams or problem. Coming back it went from 75 mi to 65 mi and then to 55mi for a short stretch (mile oe so). Guess where the Cam Van was? It then went back to 65 and soon another short 55 area, Cam Van and back to 65 the rest of the way home. Both had no real reason for the drop and only one sign with no warning of the speed chage.

Can someone fill me in on the codes following red light alerts? I guess the .01 represents the distance away but letters like ZSW and ZKT mean nothing to me. I am also confused as to why the alert repeats itself. Does the second warning indicate you are beyond the camera? Do the alerts sound even if the camera is on the other side of the street? I own a gamin 660 if that is of any help.

This is interesting, there is discussion in Ottawa about moving around red light cameras. Meaning the camera would not be set in one place permanently but moved around to different locations/intersections.

Any thoughts on this tactic? Have any other locations in Canada or the US discuss this?

Today I was driving on the highway and noticed two big traffic style cameras bolted to the back of a moving police patrol car. Both cameras were oriented forward, one "looking" to the left of the vehicle and one "looking" to the right. I couldnt capture a photo since I was driving, but wondered if this description sounded familiar to anyone else...

I get an audible ding when approaching a speed or red light camera. I get this because I have included the mp3 file along with the speed and red light .csv files.

But, when approaching an intersection where there is a red light I get not one "ding" but 4 or sometimes even 8 dings.

Is there a way to reduce the dings to 1?

I have been working on capturing the speed limits for the cameras in the file that had that data missing.

This is a rather large project and I am almost finished. I may have a few that I need assistance with and I will post their locations in this thread when I am done.

This article appeared in the local paper today. I think folks speeding over 12 mph above the speed limit in work zones, even after being warned, should be ticketed. What do you think?

Say cheese.

In an effort designed to bolster the state budget with speeding fines, California drivers who race through intersections might soon be caught on camera.

With all the news of government budget shortfalls, I'm seeing an unbelievable number of speed traps the last few months. I'm not talking about how often I get stopped (no increase there, fortunately), but the sheer number of cops with their cruisers parked on the side street aiming the radar gun at the traffic, doing nothing but waiting for a speeder.
