[Chicago] How to beat a speeding ticket
It was with some fanfare that the Chicago Police Department announced three years ago that all city police districts were being supplied with high-tech LIDAR speed detectors to help crack down on speeders on neighborhood streets.

To increase revenue I believe municipalities that operate red-light and speed cameras should begin allowing the open area around the intersection or highway, that is visible to the enforcement camera, be sold for commercial advertizing space.
(Historical Precedent: Ad revenue is already generated from publicly operated buses and bus-stop benches.)

Heath, Ohio voters turn off red light and speed cameras
Voters in Heath, Ohio voted to ban the already installed red light and speed cameras in their town. They also voted out the Mayor who put them in place.

one quick question
how does the POI for speed and redlight cameras work? i download it in2 my nuvi 260w and wen i come to a point that i just downloaded it says "redlight camera" or something?

the yellow light factor
I was curious that if anyone ever felt they were sure the light was yellow when they crossed a line at an intersection, but they were issued a ticket anyway.
Or, is it rather, that the yellow is too short for someone to sensibly stop, i.e. they went over the line on red, and got a ticket.

Have they been confirmed or can anyone confirm that they are indeed active?

Red Light Camera?
I have noticed recently in Calgary Alberta, along Elbow Drive in the Lower Mount Royal area, mounted to the traffic light standards around Sifton Blvd, there are occasionally small blue flashing lights that go soild blue. I am wondering if this is a speed senser for a camera. Does anyone know what they are? WR Dave

Kansas City Courts Overwhelmed By People Protesting Redlight Camera Tickets
Kansas City's courts are apparently overwhelmed with people protesting redlight camera tickets. In fact, the system is so overwhelmed that they're installing computers outside the courtroom where people can review the video that resulted in their ticket. The hope is that people will realize how clearly the evidence stacks up against them and will drop their complaint.

I-95 just North of the DC Beltway around the MD Route 198 Exit
Has anyone here seen the photo ticket signs that MD put up on I-95, North and South, around the area they are building the Inter County Connector (ICC) on I-95? This area is located just South of the 198/Laurel and Burtonsville exits which is ~10 mi North of the DC beltway. Are these signs just a bluff?

Fullerton, CA redlight cameras are gone
I drove past some intersections in Fullerton, CA today. All the redlight cameras are gone.
They were installed be Nestor Traffic Systems of Delaware which is in bankruptcy.

Red Light Runners
I'm not particularly in favor of red light cameras, but sometimes they just may be useful--in Illinois, for example. I live in Maryland and we have some of them scattered about, in the DC suburbs mainly. I don't believe cameras or runners are a major problem here, at least on the Eastern Shore.

VA Beach - Northhampton Blvd. and Diamond Springs Rd. Activated
Although the POI-Factory Redlight Camera file has listed Northhampton Blvd. and Diamond Springs Rd. for quite some time, It was just turned on last Friday at midnight.
So far there are 12 active cameras with one more to go. List is in news article is different from POI-Factory. See:

Philly's new camera's active
...around City Hall. There aren't that many here so it's suitable material for the local evening news. Inevitably, there were people on the news who were against them....

I opened them and both have the same number of entries: 3,247 red light cameras.

Red Light/Speed Cameras Conversion
I used to be more active on here when I had my Navigon 2100.
Now I have an aftermarket 2din in my Jetta running IGO8 software.
Is there someway of downloading the red light/speed camera files and converting them to use on IGO8?

Anyone travelling North OR South on I5 BE AWARE
WEED, CA. is a real speed trap location. First they lowered the speed limit in their area from 70 to 65mph & they enforce it.
Got me @ 74MPH & cost well over $100.00
If anyone knows how put it into a POI
