Garmin talk

Is there another way to get the map updates...that is, a way other than paying $69.99 to Garmin??? How does one know if the changes in the maps are worth that hefty investment? I'm thinking once every five years might make sense, but spending $70 once a year seems unreasonable. What do the rest of you think? What do you guys do? Nuvi 650.

First, I have to say thanks a lot to this forum for saving me a lot of anguish.

I just bought a nuvi 750 to replace my TomTom ONE from HSN (299.00).

Having trouble using a new SD card. I unloaded all my POI flies from my Garmin unit.Turned the Garmin off,installed one Sandisk 2GB card. When I tried to reload my POI files using POI loader all the files went directly to the Garmin unit.Am I missing a step???

What program do you use to make a playlist on an SD card for your NUVI? I would like to place a bunch of individual songs on a card and then create several playlists to choose from.

I just got a 200w Nuvi today and have been trying to use the POI lOader.

Since the Nuvi didn't come with a usb cable....I am just using a similar cable from my Canon Camera.

It appears to be working as I've been able to process the map update.

However, when I try the POI loader I keep getting a communication device error.

Any suggestions??

how do i download the bmp from website to gps and alerts also

I purchased one a few months back for the time when I would be retired and traveling across the US. I have not been able to find an easy way to keep up with all the POI's. I would like to be able to load them onto one or more SD cards and then access them with my GPS unit as needed.

Can we have people post recent GREAT prices on the most popular Garmin Units?

How does the Nuvi compute arrival time? Does it take into account the speed limits on the roads taken? I know is ALWAYS comes out correct when you do arrive, btw.

I just had a strange thing happen with my nuvi 780. I was typing in the address of a place I wanted to go. When I got to the street number, I typed in 5450. As I was finishing, a screen appeared with several ascending street numbers, beginning with 5449. But 5450 was not on that list! And the nuvi would never accept my exact input.

I've customized the Red Ligt Camera and Speed Camera MP3's - not sure if it worked yet

Anyone know if I can also alter the "Lost Satellite Reception" clip as well?

I have a number of POI files in different folders, which I am familiar with loading to my Garmin Legend HCx, using POI Loader. Three questions now arise, however:

Hi there. I just bought a Nuvi 760 last week and have some newbie questions.

I seek clarification re the following:
1) Is the POI "Red Light & Speed Cameras" a single file? I seem to have two files in my POI folder, one for each. Now, I am unable to find them as separate POI on this site. I am confused.

2) What is the POI "Checkpoints/safety zones?" Obviously, this file is different from Red Light and Speed Camera, but I do not know the difference.

Let me start off by saying I have a new Nuvi 750. Love it. Wife loves it and I love my wife...ha ha ha

That being said, I am having difficulty really grasping the local and daily use of POI's...when really, I could just look the location, store, restaurant.

Is there any way of changing the buttons
come up in the where to feature like having my
extra come up on the first page or routes?

One of my friend at work have a 260 nuvi and he can't get the satelite window. Is it possible on a 260 nuvi?

i recently took a trip to leesburg, va from germantown, md via of white's ferry. i passed about 4 speed traps.. i'd greatly appreciate it if any poolesville people check up on redlight and speedtrap updates because my nav didnt beep once..but i was glad to be driving smart.

My 1st GPSr was a Nuvi 350 which I had to send back after a few months b/c the power switch stopped working. Garmin quickly replaced the unit with a different one, I sold the replacement unit shortly after it returned and upgraded to a 750, but the friend I sold it to is now experiencing the same problem. Anybody else had this problem?
