accuracy of my nuvi 200w

hello.

i am interested to see what results others have on there garmin gps device.

i have a nuvi 200w. when i check on the satelite status screen(by leaving pressing and holding for 4 sec, then release), i get no lower than 10 feet accuracy, but an average of 24 feet.

is that good or bad? should i even rely on what it says on there?

.

You won't get an accuracy of lower than 9 - 10 feet.

Consumer grade GPS units are only accurate to +/- 3 meters under IDEAL circumstances. In reality, you can expect accuracy of 15 - 20 feet.

However, for most auto oriented applications, this is more than accurate enough. The GPS unit is sticking to the roads.

It there something specific you are trying to accomplish?

no, nothing specific. but

no, nothing specific.

but since its kinda on topic, just wondering if it has anything to do with me passing a street, but on my gps its delayed and still shows me before or just crossing when im already a good distance ahead the previous intersection/street

on my magellan roadmate 2000 it seemed pretty accurate as to when im passing intersections/streets

is this normal for a garmin?

Garmin probaly has a slower processor.

The new 200 series have a faster processor and updates the screen 4X faster.

That's What He Has

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Consumer GPSr can get accuracy to 2 meters. Mapping GPSr with WAAS and position averaging can achieve that accuracy. That catch is that position averaging can take hours. smile

Garmin has so many models. It's insane.

If you are experiencing the screen delay, try using one of the 2D modes instead of the 3D mode.
