Garmin talk

I purchased a 265t for my wife in Feb. I took advantage of the free map update offered by Garmin. I have noticed that the new map is missing a lot of smaller communities, among other things. I know this was just brought up in a recent post also. My question is, how can I get the original 2009 map back on my unit, the one it shipped with? I did not do a backup when I bought it.

I had a Garmin Street Pilot for several years and it included rest areas. It died so I bought a Garmin 260, which does not include rest areas. I've spent hours on the internet trying to learn exactly how to download rest areas onto the Garmin 260 and I am stumped. I am also technically challenged, shall we say.

There is a new version of the communicator plug in. I just found out by using google maps and trying to send it to my gps.

I myself have always owned Garmin. Until the most recent 765t, have always been happy with the units I have owned. I have no basis for comparison to other brands.

For those who have owned different brands, what is your take on Garmin vs. other brands?

i have followed the instructions and done everything i could, (latest POI Uploader, downloaded sox.exe on this forum, same file names, etc) but i cant get the sound and some icons to appear on my maps. Some icons would appear black.

I download a vehicle inco (SUV) I thought I need a little bigger icon than the car.The download file's name is vehicle. No exyension name.I looked in the vehicle folder on my garmin and they all have an extension. How do you add a vehicle icon with the correct file extension to the vehicle folder?

.... supported by Nuvi's?? I have a Nuvi 760 & just got an LG Rumor. Having trouble trying to pair them.

Installed the latest MapSource, hooked up my Nuvi 750 to my laptop and attemted to transfer the detail map to MapSource. MapSource claims my Nuvi has no maps installed. It sure does. (I am not looking in the removable SD card either). What is the trick to get MapSource to get the detailed map?

Just started using Mapsource and having a few problems. Can't find the answers in the manual or on line.

Since my unit does not have mp3 is there a way for me to add something so I can use the additional voices for poi's?

is there an easy way to tweak a saved favorite without recreating it?
There are some favorites that I've created that i just want to move over a few feet, so that I always "hit the target" when routing to them.

I have noticed that my 550 will not tell me when my next turn off will be. On my old Street Pilot it would tell me to turn left on North str. If I change the display map, it will show me and also tell me the next str name to turn on. I want to set this screen for use all the time. I don't need to have to watch the display for my turn. I want to hear my next turn.

I was wondering if you can mark sections of roads as closed, so the Nuvi will automatically route around it when calculating routes?

Here in St. Louis, there is a several mile section of a major highway closed for repairs, and it will be for many months.

(Using nuvi 750, btw.)

I downloaded Red Light & Speed Cameras POIs to my computer but when I try to load them to my device or the SD card, the POI loader can't locate them or I can't see them when I use the browse function.

Has anyone expirienced this? My 255W has been fine and has not seen much use in the 2 months I have owned it. As soon as I plug in the unit I get a white screen flashing with the garmin splash screen in the background. It seems to sometimes stop and work if I press on the screen. Other than this it works OK. It did the flashing white screen once on battery, but that has not been replicable.

I travel to doctors for a living and I have yet to find a download which only shows local doctors? Does anyone know of a download like this? NUVI 260W
