WebUpdater v2.4.2 released

http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99...

Or get the update by just running WebUpdater.

I have no idea if this is the "sits in your system tray" version eluded to in a different topic.

Changes made from version 2.4.1 to 2.4.2:
* Changes to support updates for some zumo devices.

EDIT: Tried to install but got an "insufficient disk space" error message. Hmmm...I have 2+ GB free on C: and about 20 GB free on D:...maybe this is another Garmin beta release. Or perhaps it's a map update in a WebUpdater disguise... rolleyes

Well to get WebUpdater to install, I had to decompress the archive with WinRAR, then run WUMAIN.msi to get the thing to install...with NO PROBLEM. However, running setup.exe simply errors out with an error message stating that there is insufficient disk space for the installation to proceed. And to top it off, it installed on my D: drive...not my C: drive. And now, looking at the installation folder that it installed it to, WebUpdater takes up only 4.99 MB.

Why on earth is 2GB of free space not enough for the WebUpdater setup program which in the end only installs 5 MB of data?

WebUpdater took up only 4.99 MB. But did you check to see if anything else was installed??

.

AFAIK, nothing else was installed using WUMAIN.msi for the installation. It was very quick and I'm fairly certain nothing else but WebUpdater was installed. I do now however wonder if anything additional gets installed on systems where setup.exe could proceed. The download is ~6 MB but a good chunk of that (uncompressed) are the language dll files.

Very odd.

That's the correct size after it's installed. However, the updater setup file itself is about 6MB. It gets deleted after setup completes.

I just did the update. It went fine. It didn't ask me to restart either. Nothing in the system tray like someone says in another thread. There isn't any sign of it running in the background or running as a service.

You might want to empty temp files and internet temp files as well. Restart and retry the update.

WebUpdater 2.4.2

Installed directly from WebUpdater 2.4.1 with no problems. No restart necessary. Nothing active when program not running. Took all of 15 seconds.

WebUpdater v2.4.2

I encountered problems installing the new version. I'm running Windows XP Pro and I had to manually start the 'Windows Installer' service (system services) if you're familiar.

After starting the Windows Installer, the program installed properly and loaded it into Program Files, etc.

Just an FYI in case someone else runs across the same problem as I did.

WebUpdater

I just ran the WebUpdater 2.4.2 install on Windows XP Pro and did not encounter any problems. The upgrade installed automatically with no need to run Windows Installer and no need for a restart.

My Nuvi happens to be connected and the new WebUpdater jumped right into checking for upgrades and new installs. I looaded Bluetooth and four voices and it seemed to go smoothly.

I have XP Pro 2002 with SP3.

I just installed to my Vista

I just installed to my Vista Home Premium system with no problems. Nothing in system tray and took less than a minute to run and install.

Not enough Disk Space

You have run into the Windows disk limit. Windows needs to see at least 15% of the hard drive free at all times or it will not allow you to install programs, or run Windows Disk defrag. You'll need to delete or move enough of your files off the hard drive onto a Flash drive, CD, DVD, or external hard drive. If you are storing pictures or music on the hard drive that would be a good place to start. Also clean out any temp files stored in C:\windows\temp and also stored in your profiles in Documents and Settings. You can also free up more space by reducing the size of the Recycle Bin which uses 10% of the hard drive, 1% to 2% is enough, and System Restore uses 12% of the hard drive, set it to about 5% or 6%. Doing all of this should free up enough space to allow you to install the update.

Windows default sizes

Good advice. The default Windows percentages may have made sense in the day of 30MB disks, they make no sense at all in the case of terabyte drives!

no problem

Did mine in 2 mins. No problems with loading or running it. I'm running Visa.
