You will need either the downloaded map update file or you will have to contact Garmin to get it on a DVD. There is a small charge to get it on DVD.

Yes, you can't load the maps to MapSource from the GPS unit. You need to original disk or download file.

You can't transfer maps from the GPS to Mapsource.

The maps in your device are "compiled" into an IMG file whis is not useable as a a mapsource input. Mapsource requires it's content in a different form.

Thanks rjrsw and M. Mama. I put the 2009 map file onto a dvd when I downloaded it. What do I do with the executable? I unpacked it with winrar to see a plethora of files and folders. How do I transfer (copy) the detail map to MapSource?

Since you unpacked the rar file, look for a subfolder called Windows. In there is a setup.exe file. You need to run that. The first thing it will do is install MapSource and the 2009 maps. If you already have updated MapSource to the latest version, this will probably install an older version which you can update again.

Your GPS must be connected to the PC via USB in order for setup.exe to run. After MapSource is installed, the program will next update the maps on your GPS. If you don't want to do this, you can simply unplug the GPS after setup.exe begins installing MapSource on your PC.
