I have noticed that posts about Garmin products far exceeds posts about other brands of GPS.

I wonder if this is a reflection of Garmin's market share?

I myself have always owned Garmin. Until the most recent 765t, have always been happy with the units I have owned. I have no basis for comparison to other brands.

For those who have owned different brands, what is your take on Garmin vs. other brands?

The majority of users on this site

use Garmin.

It probably has a lot to do with market share as well, but there are other sites that cater more toward other brands.

Customer Service...

...plays major role in the brand name! And obviously word of mouth spreads faster than any other ad. I had bad experience with Magellan Customer Services. I then just returned two Magellan units bought at the same time and bought Garmins. Have been happy since!!!

That is the reason, almost majority of the POI-factory users own at least one Garmin!!!!

Pretty meaningless

You could conclude pretty much anything that you want about this observation.

One person might conclude that is is all about Garmin's market share.

Another might conclude that a GPS without a decent manual, like Garmin, needs a community site to help people figure out the device.

Some might say that more problems with a brand lead to more posts.

Others may conclude that poor POI support for some off-brand GPS units is the reason for more Garmin discussion on a site who's stated focus is Points of Interest.

I expect that Tom Tom and their map share feature causes Tom Tom users to congregate at the Tom Tom site, while Garmin lacks this feature and, although they have very good phone support, leaves the on-line support side of the business to the community with little or no Garmin participation.

So I suspect there is no one right answer to this, it's just how you want to interpret it.

Probably Right

You’re right on, not easy manuals. Two days a ago I got a brand new nuvi1390T free as a product tester, no really free I did not pay anything, no shipping no nothing; I do HAVE to give email feedback on the unit’s features and functions weekly. It is awesome! Thinner then my older nuvi and has the new ecoROUTE program. This new program is what they really want allot of feedback on. I know garmin must be paying the bill to get feedback to improve units. If you’re interested in becoming a tester I will forward you the contact information and the link to the website. Sounds like a sales pitch to me

Miss POI,

Sounds like a sales pitch to me. Bet you have to pay to be a tester and companies will contact you --- but they never do!

Whereas I think they will - over, and over, and over again! Sounds like an email address spam trap to me.

Wal-Mart

When Wal-Mart sells Garmin it will dominate the market. And when i was in there last week the shelf was full of nothing but Garmin's.

hmmmmmm

That says alot to me about the product wink

...or when you go to the

...or when you go to the brick and mortar stores to "play" with the units you're thinking about purchasing, the only ones that i could find that actually aquired satellites or much of anything usefull were garmins. made my decision for me, bought a nuvi 850 and am very happy.
