Magellan talk

Version 4.72 is is now available. I think this is the first update since this model came out. Looks good so far, but Magellan is not very informative about what improvements are included. Easy installation.

I've had a Magellan Maestro 3225 I got at Costco a year or two ago and have really enjoyed using it; I updated to the 6 million US POI I found somewhere on the net without any issues and am preparing to do a firmware update in the very near future.

Has anyone been successful getting a free map update from Magellan on the new purchase of a refurbished GPS? I just ordered a 4050 for my wife and I have heard that the refurbs often come with older map data.

OK... I have been searching before I posted and really cannot find the information.

Here is what I would like to know...

I have to say I have been worried about making my first call into Magellan support. All I have heard is horror stories of how bad they are... especially since all I have had with Garmin is outstanding service and support... so the bar was set high.

I have had my 4350 over a week now... I do like the unit... but quiet frankly I still like my Garmin Nuvi's better. From an ease of use and general functionality standpoint I think Garmin is still a head of the game. Now having said that I still like the 4350.

Some noted things missing (and Magellan experts please pipe in if these are there and I am just missing them):

I have a Magellen Maestro 3225. I downloaded the Walmart POI. I opened the Editor, selected "all files" & walmart, selected line 1, used the semi-comma (default) seperator. At "finish" I receive "fields name, lat & long are manditory for import". All of my downloaded POI's have the same problem. What did I do wrong? Did I save on my PC the incorrect file extension & miss part of the file?

As noted in my signature I own... actually 3... Garmin units. Love them all. I took advantage of the Amazon $179 deal yesterday for a new 4350. Like anything else... the reviews are mostly good but wanted to solicit some feedback from you guys and gals that actually have one and use it.

I got an email earlier today from Amazon... I thought it might be spam but got on their website and ordered one. A new 4350 for $179.99.

I am new to the GPS world. I would like to add more POI's to my Mag 4225 (COSTCO). Which format is the easiest to convert to the Mag file format and offers the most POI's? ... Garmin, Nuvi, etc? This site offers two; which do I choose? If I understand correctly, the icons & sounds can not be modified. Correct?

When going off route, sometimes it does not recalculate the new route on the fly, you have to reenter the route again.

It does it about 1 out of every 10 times

The car/pointer just sits there, the unit does not freeze, cause you can still select the route again under favorites or previous.

I would say it gets confused.

Looks like the new Magellan's like the 1340 will not accommodate custom POI's

Do you think they will add this feature?

The subject pretty much says it. I've got everything up to date, including new maps and I just recently noticed that it doesn't say "Destination ahead in .5 miles [on the left]" anymore.

Don't know when I lost the side-of-the-street information. Might just be a quirk of TTS......or the new maps.....or might never have said that since I upgraded from a 4000 ??? Anybody else know?

First, I have been a staunch Garmin user and VAR for quite some time. I am very disappointed that they DO NOT LISTEN to their users for enhancement ideas. I have done contract work for other software companies with front end improvement ideas.

I purchased a "refurbished" unit the other day. Firmware version is 3.12. Unit seems to work fine except when I try to enter an address that has a "." or space in it. Example "Southwest Fwy" or "SW. Fwy"
