Looks like these should be called semi-annual. See below from AAA website:

Due to unforeseen delays, a new update is not expected to be available until sometime in late May or June, 2009. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Still a great service

Given that the books are updated once a year, this is still a great service even with the delays.

AAA Update

Still no updates in June, although having AAA info is still stong selling point for Magellan. Perhaps new owners are negotiating with AAA.

Agree that even annual updates are beneficial and a great feature.

AAA Update

Finally got version 8- see below:

For owners of Maestro 3140, 3210, 3250, 4000, 4040, 4050, 4210, 4250 and 5310 units, as well as RoadMate 1340, 1440 and 1470 units: Download your free AAA/CAA data update (72 MB download, ver 8.0 issued July 2008).

For owners of Maestro 4350 and 4370 units: Download your free AAA/CAA data update (23 MB download, ver. 7.0 issued Jan. 2009; version 8.0 is being developed separately, to be released late July 2009).

price

Did the price of AAA membership go up substantially in the past couple of years? I use to have a emergency towing services with my cell phone carrier. They eventually discontinued the service. I was planning on purchasing a AAA membership but I got a more reliable vehicle and didn't see the need. The cell phone carrier service was about an additional $3/month which was about what the junk mail I got from AAA offered.

AAA

Most likely the rates went up for AAA membership since you checked last, but they have additional benefits besides towing and trip support. If you travel or eat out the discounts on hotels and restaurants like Joe's Crab Shack and the Chart House can make up for the dues.
The extended warranty on Magellan GPS plus 15% discount are also pluses.
