magellan rm1412 issue

I purchased a "refurbished" unit the other day. Firmware version is 3.12. Unit seems to work fine except when I try to enter an address that has a "." or space in it. Example "Southwest Fwy" or "SW. Fwy"
As soon as I hit the space button or "." the unit will freeze for about 1 minute and then reboot. If I just enter "southwest" it takes about 30 seconds but it will bring up the list with what I need. Is it just this unit or has anyone else had this problem?

What city and street are you searching?
Mine seems to take about 30 seconds to search for "SW. Loop 820" in "Fort Worth, TX" and "W. University" in "McKinney, TX", but it does not reboot.
Oh I should add, mine is a refurb as well, but I have not updated to the latest firmware yet. I'm still running "1.28".
