Magellan talk

I read the Magellan comparison chart on Magellangps.com, and it seems to say the Maestro 4040 does not have text to speech. But the product page on that item says it does.

However, buy.com is selling them and on that site it says it does have text to speech.

So which is it? Does that unit have text to speech (speaks street names) or not?

I'm new to this - but I did read te FAQs ... where is the "standard" POI file on a Magellan 4250. I was looking for a .mgln file but found none ... what folder is it in?

Does anyone know how to turn off the screen tap clicking sound on the Roadmates?

Finding that my C330 cannot locate any satellites if the weather is poor. Understand that I may have interferance as weather interfers with satellites but I get no recpetion in any weather related occurrence.

Is my Garmin dead?

How do I update all of the POI's in my GPS? Alot of the resturantes listed are no longer there for some areas.

Have a street pilot C330. Most times at start up, the Magellan searches (endlessly)for satellites. Is this common or is the Magellan on its last leg?

Does anyone know of a way to pick a spefic route and save it on the 4250? I'd like to be able to pick my route in advance, add POI's along the way that I select and then save that route on gps unit. Sorta like using the old AAA triptik maps -- you pick the route, highlight some things along the way and have it ready to go before you leave... Thanks!

I would like to make my own *.CSV file for a POI and I would like to know how can I find the Long and Lat from a web site etc. Or when people make different POI which are posted here where did they get these values. I know I can grab an address from a website, say, Walmart but where can I get Long and Lat.

Hello everyone, I've got unit with date code 04/2007 but it still hasn't covered lots of new streets names in the city of Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton & Niagara Falls (all Canada cities - as I've personally checked it out) and some of the streets were ready in 07/2006.

Do I have to enable the new POI file(s) each time I turn on my gps? I have the Costco 1412. If I have to enable each file every time I turn it on it wouldn't seem to be worth the effort.

I started using VantagePoint software with my Maestro 4250. Its been working great.

Tonight I checked the Magellan website for newer software and noticed that the Maestro units are not considered compatible with the VantagePoint software. I thought when I downloaded the software originally the 4250 was compatible with the software.

I have magellan maestro 4250 and like their poi for restaurants as it gives out category. I would like to convert that on my TomTom 930. I can convert csv to ov2 format. But do not know how to convert .poi to csv. My magellan did not come with tools that convert .poi to csv.

Hey y'all, I just received the 3225 as a service award and although I like it (1st GPS), I have questions about how to load POI's onto it. I've been reading/searching POI file construction blogs 'til the cows came home. I downloaded some .csv files and attempted to use the software that came with the unit, without any success.

does anyone know of a way to add the right icon to magellan poi files?

I've been looking out on the web and it seems like there's no way to do it but I would like to be sure.

Can someone tell how to change the alerts from beeps/dings to something else, so that I could distinguish an upcoming speed trap...I have a Magellan 2200T...

Here is my plan: I returned the TT to the store as I had only 14 days to evaluate it and be able to return it with no questions asked. However Costco, where I purchased the Magellan, allows one to return GPS units anytime within *1 year* of the purchase! I believe Magellan indicates that there will be map updates for the 4250 by September 2008. Okay how reliable do you think this date is?
