Hi all
I would like to make my own *.CSV file for a POI and I would like to know how can I find the Long and Lat from a web site etc. Or when people make different POI which are posted here where did they get these values. I know I can grab an address from a website, say, Walmart but where can I get Long and Lat.
Thanks for the help in adavance.
Google Earth
is a good place to start for coordinates.
260, 295W, 1490T,2455LMT
Here is another site that may help
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoding.html
260, 295W, 1490T,2455LMT
Geocoding
I like GPS Visualizer best because you can run up to 1000 geocodes at a time.
Wikipedia often References lat and long
Wikipedia often References lat and long.
For example try:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buffalo%2C_New_York
On the right hand side you should find:
Location of Buffalo in New York State
Coordinates: 42°54′17″N 78°50′58″W
If you have a Garmin you can download software that allows you to save lat/long to your favorites.
Nuvi 255W, Ham radio, MacBook Pro
GPS Visualizer
I use GPS Visualizer and then use either Google Maps or Google Earth to verify the coordinates. And remember with Google Earth you need to place your cursor on the center of the target box to get the exact coordinates of the address. Another option is TerraServer from Microsoft.
http://terraserver.microsoft.com/default.aspx
Best advice is to try to get the coordinates from two different programs to verify the accuracy of the coordinates. So far, GPS Visualizer seems to be the most accurate.
Good luck!
Garmin 765T...Is it about the destination, or is it about the journey?
An other good site
You can also try on :

I use Google maps a lot to make my gpx or csv file. The best part about it is that it puts in the coordinates on the locations.See this node on the process I use http://www.poi-factory.com/node/14307#comment-68619
