True. But you know the old saying, if it ain't broke... I would rather them get it right as opposed to having problems.

With all due respect to them, it seems the Garmin folks have had some issues with the 3.10 updates and have had to go back to the previous firmware. Hopefully, it'll get sorted quickly.

besides for map updates, if someone has a 4250 or Magellan with Traffic updates etc.. can we expect to see anything else in an update?
Once you have a unit that can recieve traffic updates, can it receive things like weather? gas prices?

Thanks

Good Info

I too was beginning to think Magellan forgot about all of the users who purchased their product.

I guess I would rather wait for an update that "worked" instead of one that gave me trouble.

Maybe, probably not

Could that happen? Yes.
Is it likely to happen? NO.

Reason being that they could put those "features" into a "new" model and set a higher price.

maybe soon, in future models

shinbet, weather should not be a problem, may in a matter of months, but gas prices mmm will need a GPS emmita chip @ each gas station to make it possible, good thinking.

MSN Direct

Some of the Garmin Nuvi units utilize MSN Direct for gas prices. I had one to play with for a few weeks and it was pretty accurate. It also had weather and movie times. I would like to see Magellan do that also. Anyway, how often are the maps updated? Is it once per year?

4250 Map Update

HI all,

Magellan is saying there's a new 2008/09 map update available for the 4250 (http://www.magellangps.com/support/) but I can't seem to locate the maps (do i need to use my GPS unit? razz). Has anyone been able to locate the new maps?

Thanks for the feedback,

Jeff

Thank you! Good to know this

Thank you! Good to know this schedule!

Not a map update

There are NO MAPS yet. If you got this from an email, read it again. Mine said "Firmware Update".

Even that is a joke because they are finally getting around to sending out notification for the update which has been available for MORE than 90 days already.....it is 4.60 Firmware.

Magellan Updates Now Available

Magellan has finally released their updates to the web for downloading (http://www.magellangps.com/products/map.asp?tab=0&PRODID=215...). Seems I didn't need to use my GPS unit to find the updates... the Magellan website used the wrong links.

ka1167 - I got the link from the Magellan website; and I did receive the firmware update. Maps are now active for downloading.

Jeff

What ??

What.....the website has the wrong links but you got the link for the site....that has the wrong links ??? That makes no sense.

The link you POSTED seems to work, however. All you need is that link AND $79.99 !!

Gonna have to think about that for a while.

I guess the question is: How did you first find out that the Map Update was available ??

PO'd!

I declined as well, and called Magellan to voice my concern for charging for updates on a unit that was bought a few months ago. The gal in Manila said it was their policy, but volunteered to escalate it for me.

I guess a Garmin will be my next GPS. How sad is that for Magellan?

Map Update

I was just on the Magellan website to update the firmware on my 3250 to 4.6. I saw the Map Update, but never received an email saying it was out. I guess we'll get it in a couple of months, like the firmware email.

I don't think I'm going to buy this one though. Eighty bucks seems like a lot to get some new streets that I most likely won't be driving on anyway. There could be some new highways on there, but I don't do much travelling anyway.

i just happened upon it (the new maps at $79.99).

as far as the firmware update, i received the e-mail a few days after i stumbled upon the firmware update while poking around the magellan site.

btw...those directional arrows are HUGE!

Will

About time

I will probably update this year. I haven't for a couple of years, and I know there are some new highways on the route I often take for trips. When I drive the new bypass around Chippewa Falls, WI, my Magellan shows me in the middle of nowhere. smile

AAA 15% Discount

AAA members can get a 15% discount on the new maps. If you add the map to your cart, during the checkout process, a box with "AAA member, click here" brings you to a site with instructions for getting the discount code. You have to make a phone call to get the code. Once you complete the process and continue to check out, the 15% discount will appear prior to checkout. It worked for me and I just installed the new maps on my 4250. It does take a long time for the install.

Discount

discdad wrote:

About a $12 savings. Not too bad. I may upgrade after all. Can you be any more specific about "a long time" ??

--
Magellan Maestro 4250// MIO C310X

Install Time

To install, it took approximately one hour or a little more. My puter is pretty fast and I'm not use to any install taking that long. The DVD would write to the hard drive in temp files and the hard drive loaded the files to the GPS. I guess that installing into the GPS bogged things down. Instructions really emphasize and I know from experience that you could make a paper weight out of the device if not loaded correctly.

How recent?

How can you tell when the maps were updated? When I look up my Roadmate 760, it just says "Version 6".
