Thanks!

Thanks for the news! Going to update now. smile

Can someone guide me on

downloading just once and applying to my three LMT-eligible devices? I can't see how to do it and am getting tired of d/l-ing such a large file more than once.

thanks.

All I get

are downloading errors.

2015.10 Update

I too, am getting installation errors

MapUpdater.

I tried MapUpdater v3.3.3 with all 3 of my nuvi's (cloning method). It says "A map is available for purchase" even though I have lifetime updates on all 3 units. The only other choice it gives me is to reinstall the current map with other options. If I try that, I get an error that "The product key is invalid for this update".

AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH! It looks like Garmin has once again made it so the maps will not upate with MapUpdater.

So I guess I will try to install GarminExpress and see how far I get with that.

No

No point you'll get map install error messages using GE. Only Garmin can screw up a map update so you can install a map update.

On the other hand the download did start using GE and since I'm using alanb's cloning method we will see what we get even with the error messages popping up. No harm will come to the Nuvi using cloning.

I can confirm that the current GarminMapUpdater (v3.3.3 Windows) fails as alandb reports.

But I first tried Garmin Express. What a disaster! My GE was an older version so I first tried to update to the new 3.19. The installation failed and failed in a way that wouldn't let me uninstall or reinstall GE at all. This includes attempts to install with Run As Administrator and Compatibility Mode. After a lot of work and reboots of the PC, I was finally able to get GE 3.19 installed. I tried then to let GE update my nuvi 2460 (as I didn't want to mess up the 3597 in case the update failed). I went for the optional Update Device And Computer. After downloading the file, GE reported that both the installation to the 2460 and to the computer failed.

I am a very Unhappy Camper right now. My recommendation is not to try to update your primary GPS until things are worked out. And if you do as I did and try to update a backup GPS, please report if either GE or a new version of GMU is working for you.

Garmin Express

I installed Garmin Express 3.1.9 with no problems. I didn't have an older version, so this was a fresh install. I am now doing the download for a cloned card for my old nuvi 755. Like CraigW. I don't want to risk my new 3597LMTHD until I am sure that the junkware Garmin Express won't mess it up.

Nothing But Errors

Nothing but errors here. Tried MapUpdater it wants to sell maps. Tried a new computer, it gets hung up in the install communicator loop. Just Garmin!

That's probably smart

That's probably smart installing GE fresh rather than as an update. My update (on a Win7 64-bit PC) to 3.19 was from GE 3.17. The update started, failed due to an Unable to install Garmin Core Services, then went South from there. Repeated attempts to update "as Administrator," in "Compatibility mode," etc. all failed--and GE was now unable to be uninstalled as well mad Finally after a PC reboot and an attempt again at a "fresh" 3.19 installation, I was able to install 3.19.

I think in the future, and if I need GE at all, I'll first uninstall the current version of GE and never try a GE update--and after the uninstall, will go for a fresh install of the new version.

How Garmin can continue to offer such a flawed piece of software is totally beyond my comprehension.

I can only hope that they'll be forced once again to offer a revised GarminMapUpdater.

It is possible that the map update failures with an installed GE3.19 may not be related to the GE program but possibly due to overloaded servers or some on error at Garmin's end of things so my main gripe right now is with Garmin Express rather than the 2015.10 map update.

got it to work

So Express was crapping out on me and MapUpdater kept pushing me to Express unless I had a code. I logged into my Garmin and in the my maps secrion was the updated product code for this update (2015.10) So I used that in MapUpdater and it took it. Downloaded the maps and installed fine. The caveat is I am using base camp and I am not using a Nuvi but an Oregon650 as my device. So your mileage may very on this process with a map that updates directly to the device.

Looks like GE is updated too!

Maybe the best method to follow is to update GE to 3.2.3.0 and then do the map update.

Interesting

That's an interesting observation KingSquirellStopmer, and also interesting that you got the map installed with MapUpdater. In my case, my.Garmin is not showing the 2015.10 update for any of my 3 nuvi's, so unless I am missing something, I have no way to get the product codes.

Fortunately

On extended travel - don't have laptop with me so can't get my 3 units fouled up by trying to update.
Besides, 6000 miles of my travels will be on Amtrak starting Saturday so unless someone moved the rails I should get to Phoenix OK from Albany !
I guess old 2014.4 maps will just have to do for awhile till I get home in June.

I got it by:

Login into my.garmin.com

Select myMaps

On the myMaps page click Details beside the device you want to update.

The Maps Download page will appear

Scroll to the bottom of the page and the 2015.10 entry should be listed.

The CODE you need is under CODE and is in the format XXXXXXX1

Copy that code number and use it in MapUpdater after you click on the small print on the MapUpdater screen that reads "I have a Product Code" or something like that.

I'm downloading with GMU 3.3.3 like KingSq

alandb wrote:

Given the failure to update with GE, and with GMU asking for a code, I thought I was out of luck. But given KingSq's success, I again tried GMU 3.3.3. When it brings up the window offering to sell you a map, exit, or enter a code, click:

I would like to enter a product key

Then click the Garmin.com link in the window to open your browser. With the GPS attached,, click Automotive, then Find Map Update, then Device Content. Your product key (mine was 8 letters, all caps) will be displayed. Close the browser window, then paste the product key into GMU and let the download begin.

I'm not sure I'll succeed yet, but GMU 3.3.3 with a code will let GMU offer the new map update.

Note that the code needed is a short 8-character code, not the unit ID, SN, map unlock code or anything else. I couldn't find the code anywhere in myGarmin, but following the "get the code" instructions from GMU3.3.3, I did find it and I now am hopefully downloading the map file to update my 2460 and computer.

PS--my failed attempt to download 2015.10 to my 2460 did tell Garmin that my 2460 had 2015.10 installed, which is false, but I did expect this since failed updates have always told Garmin that the update installed successfully in my experience.

[Update] During the download, "An Unexpected Error Occurred" and the download stopped. I'm done with trying anything else today. Tomorrow is another day.

GarminExpress

Garmin Express 3.1.9 sucessfully updated my cloned 755T, but somehow I missed the option to install to computer too. I guess I will try the cloned 855 next, then if all goes well, try my 3597.

Ah, yes, the needed code can be found this way (myGarmin) as well as through Garmin.com.

Just tried the GMU option

using the code. I get an unexpected error and the program must close. Hope this issue get fixed quick. I only have the base map on my 3597.

MapUpdater

Garmin must have fixed something. MapUpdater is now updating my cloned 855 and it didn't prompt to purchase ... just initiated the map update automatically the old way. Yeah!

Are you running v3.3.3 of MapUpdater? I suspect the older versions will give the unexpected error like they did last time.

Also

If you get the error message, continue to try using MapUpdater. I got the error 3 times using version 3.3.3 and on the 4th try I got the "purchase" message.

Hopefully alanb is right and Garmin has fixed the MapUpdater issues as long as your using version 3.3.3.

I don't have time to waste

I don't have time to waste by playing around with this until it works. I will wait for a few weeks for bugs to be found and fixed, just like I do for MS updates.

Sounds like Garmin still cannot get a "simple" map download to work. Geez, this is not "updating" a map, it is a complete download, how hard can it be to unpack the download and put it on the GPS?

I think Garmin needs to step up and fix the "user experience".

Yet another odd result

Edit: Spoke too soon! It just blew up for me too! I wonder if Garmin is trying block the MapUpdater process.

So very odd.

I used GMU3.3.3 yet again, manually entered my Product Key and asked to update the nuvi 2460 and computer. It started. Even odder, the download took just a few minutes so it must have had some or all of the download file saved from a past attempt. The update proceeded, and (yippee) it updated the 2460 to 2015.10. What's odd is that the map update to computer failed even though the nuvi updated succeeded. I tried again and the computer update failed again. Very odd.

But for me, with a manually entered Product Key, I was finally able to update the one nuvi I've tried so far. (To be safe, I'm running a simulation with JVs right now and all looks good.) The initial failed map updates to the nuvi eliminated the nuvi's old 2014.40 map so without the update, I was running on just the basemap as others have found today.

Early Returns

The gmapprom.img file for 2015.10 Full North America coverage is 2,274,880KB in size compared to 2,204,032KB for 2014.40. Won't be long before we'll ALL need an SD card grin

Split screen junction view file has increased from 480,049KB to 487,276KB.

Express failure

Well, after Mapupdater failed, I went back to Express to try to update my 855 clone. I selected the option to install to both device and computer since I forget to select that when I did the nuvi 755. This time Express completed the install to the device, but failed the install to the computer. Go figure. This map update has to be the flakiest one I have ever been through.

Updated Mine

I noticed an increase on Internal memory in my Garmin Nuvi3590LMT after the 2015.10 update from 1.40 gb to 1.95 gb.

I got GE to work

OK, map is now installing on PC. Hope it installs on 3597.

I tried to install 2015.10 map earlier. Downloaded OK, but bombed out at the install to PC and 3597.

Downloaded and installed the latest GE. Now GE goes right to the installs and errors out.

Located the map download at:

C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service\MAP-NA-2015-10

and deleted the whole directory. (Rename if you are queasy about deleting.)

Tried GE again and the map was downloaded again and is now installing map to PC.

Just checked PC map using Basecamp and the 2015.10 map is installed and appears to work.

Map is now installed to 3597, but when it completed, GE gave me an error message.

I disconnected the 3597 and it says that the 2015.10 map has installed and I got no error messages when I turned it on.

Hope all is well on my trip to Baltimore tomorrow!

Will try 660 next.

Computer update failed confirmation

I can confirm your "unable to install to computer" update even with a successful nuvi update. I used GarminMapUpdater with the 2460 choosing device and computer and it updated the device but failed (with an error message) to update the PC..tried a 2nd time to Computer Only and it failed. I then updated my nuvi 855 (actually, the cloned SD card) with GMU and it yet again failed on the computer update but worked with the device.

So with me unable to update the computer with GMU and you unable to update the computer with GE, it appears that currently only devices can receive the map update.

We'll need to monitor for someone having success at a computer map update.

Also...as a 855 owner, I've gotta start looking for the large JCV file...found it--gotta start the download--Bye.

Find the gmap folder City Navigator North America NT 2015.10.gmap. In my case on a PC using GE it was in C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Core Update Service\MAP-NA-2015-10\IMG\City Navigator North America NT 2015.10.gmap.
Copy the entire folder to the map folder. For me it was in:
C:\ProgramData\GARMIN\Maps

Start the Base Camp. You'll receive a warning that the map hasn't been unlocked. You can either use online option by connecting your GPS and following on screen instruction to retrieve the unlock code or obtaining the unlock code from your my.garmin.com site and entering it manually.
