A bit late, but my 2 cents on the one I own...

1. SIMPLE to program.
2. POI's are stored in a .poi file that is as of yet uneditable. Being uneditable, This also means you cannot make custom POI files and use them...until I find a way to hack it.

Noting that, I think that this unit as an "entry" level GPS is OK. I've only had mine a month or so, but for what I paid (under $90) I have no complaints. In retrospect, I should have done a bit more research before I bought a GPS (my nature of tinkering with everything I own has a lot to do with that).
I would think that to an older person or one not so technically inclined, this would be a no brainer gift. By that, I mean that it would be appreciated, and the new owner would find the programming pretty simple once they played with it a bit.

I think when I was looking for a unit last year I considered the 1200 but rejected it as the information I had found said it couldn't be updated with new data - such as maps.
