Magellan POI file construction

Hey y'all, I just received the 3225 as a service award and although I like it (1st GPS), I have questions about how to load POI's onto it. I've been reading/searching POI file construction blogs 'til the cows came home. I downloaded some .csv files and attempted to use the software that came with the unit, without any success. It keeps requesting that the Lat be a positive number and all the files have negative integers in the column.

My next question is...if you want to down load a list of POI's to an SD card, where/how do you accomplish that? I have a dig camera that holds a sd card, could I use that and then transfer it to the gps?

Thanks for any help!

Try swapping Long. and Lat.

Garmin POI format requires the longitude to be first, and is a negative number most everywhere in the US. Since your Magellan thinks the first column is Latitude and is negative, it appears that your Magellan format requires Latitude first and Longitude second. Swap the Longitude and Latitude, then try loading it. http://PoiVerifier.com makes it easy as it has an option to swap the two.

Hope this helps.

Operator Error

You were right. Long 1st, then Lat, seperated by commas. Worked fine. Loaded them through the 1394 cable and played with the coordinates some. Thanks!

Easy

The neg numbers are longitudes west of greenwich. Most CSV files have long' first, thus you have to label your columns appropriately. Hope this helps. It's straightforward.
