POI projects

Today I was browsing and through some fluke I was looking at the Alabama Cherokee website.

Now I'm wondering if there is an interest in a POI collection of Native American powwows or addresses for them. It seems that they tend to be scheduled regularly same weeks each year and in the same place. It would be no different than the state fairs, would it?

Recently I downloaded the latest firmware to my NUVI 760 and as a result my red light sounds or warnings do not seem to be active. When I approach a red light camera my nuvi sound goes blank butthe screen identifies a red light camera warning with no sound. Previously I had one of the voices mp3 state aloud of the camera warning. I cant seem to fix it. Can anybody help?

I have been working on a web site that maps all public campgrounds in the US using coordinate data as input and gpsvizualizer.com (which calls google maps among others) to produce interactive maps of each state. It also produces printable maps, a printable table of information which is also easily made into a poi file for all the public campgrounds in each state.

I would like to see Carson Ghost Town added to this poi. It is located southwest of Lake City, Colorado on Cinnamon Pass Road. I am new and don't really understand the proper way to get this included.

It's position is:

-107.361667,37.871667, Carson Ghost Town Colorado

It has several buildings still standing and is only accessible by hikers or 4wheel vehicles.

I had been posting this under the Cross Streets thread, but I figured I would start a new discussion as the other thread was getting too complicated.

To catch anyone up who wasn't following that thread, When RT retired his POI Verifier I decided to play around and duplicate some, but no where near all of his functionality. I wanted a program that would find duplicates in a file.

I have Garmin 650, two days ago I downloaded POI Loader from Garmin website and Signup for oneyear membership at this site and downloaded to my computer the SPEED CAMERAS AND REDLIGHT CAMERAS. These were saved with .CSV extension. These pois were then copied to Garmin and saved in the EXTRAS icon.

What can I use to open and modify a GPX file on a MAC? A FREE program would be great!!

ahoy...i'm a real newbie and am taking off on my first GPS adventure. The Cat, the camper and the Capt and me are going from SF CA. to Austin Texas and back. i've loaded the Parks, city, state and national, the camping spots and the free wifi POI's. NOW i just need all those interesting places.

Will red light camera poi download and work with Nuvi 365WT?

Any interest in compiling a list of used book stores? This would be very beneficial when visiting a new city, since these stores tend to be "hidden". The location would be based on an actual site visit. I have noticed that address based data is somewhat suspect.

We don't have that many here in Eastern North Carolina, so the best I could offer is to manage the list.

I trying to get some coordinates for the Colorado River from Needles, CA to Parker Dam. I bought a map with coordinates, however they are in NAD 83 and I am not sure if what I am doing is correct.

I have the Colorado 400i with the inland lakes preloaded in the device. When I put the coordinates some are not even close.

Any help would be appreciated.

I just got a Garmin NUVI 775 and have been trying to upload POI's to it with out results. I got the Garmin POI uploader from the Garmin site and it looks like it uploads the data but I can't find it on the GPS.

Is there a trick to using this software? Any suggestions?

I finished my POI file and have been using it for a couple of weeks. I would like to share it but I can't find out how to do it. Any help?

I have created an html file listing all the POI files on this site that directly concern Arizona - based on their title containing AZ, Phoenix, Tucson, Arizona, etc.. Each link is clickable to directly go to the proper POI file in the POI Factory.

Example of the first two lines:

Apache Trail near Phoenix (includes Globe)
but clickable to http://www.poi-factory.com/node/19577

I created a new POI file for US based Boy Scout camps. I know there are camps missing, but I was able to start with 330 camps. If anybody has info ion a missing/wrong camp, please provide me with the needed info and I will update -

dont you think like the red light camera file, there should be an all inclusive file for speed traps? why not combine all the state speed traps together into 1 file for all of U.S. and canada? this is what i have done so if you need someone to do it, i am off to a real good start. let me know

I've been working on a POI for electrical suppliers and I can't seem to get it to work. I see the file when I go to extras on my nuvi 205 but when I go to open it I get "No Matchs Found". Any Ideas? I've tried
using Excel and Notepad with no luck. Here is the data I'm using.

Has anyone here had success with emailing large companies in order to obtain a complete list of all their locations??? I know most of the folks here have experienced the frustration of the store locators that give you five locations for each search. Would y'all please share any tips for obtaining this info.

Since the Non-Chain Mexican Restaurants POI went over well, how about Italian?

If the place just has pizza, save it for the pizza POI.
