Speed Trap all inclusive file?

dont you think like the red light camera file, there should be an all inclusive file for speed traps? why not combine all the state speed traps together into 1 file for all of U.S. and canada? this is what i have done so if you need someone to do it, i am off to a real good start. let me know

Speed traps

I think that's an excellent idea. Is there a speed trap POI on this site?

this would be a huge project

this would be a huge project and very difficult to manage.

Miss POI

I combined

I combined the I-95 and Texas Speed traps POI files for my personal use as I'm a fairly frequent traveler of I-10, I-20, I-40 through TX and I-95 up the East Coast from Florida.

Even if I'm not speeding the occasional alert keeps me focused !

What exactly are you talking about when you refer to "speed traps"? Are you talking about non-permanent locations where law enforcement officers have been known to frequently sit and wait for speeders?

Edit: I realize, now, that there are several POI files for speed traps in several states. I hadn't noticed those before. I have a radar/lidar detector, so I usually just depend on that. I don't know if I would like a warning popping up on my GPS that there might be a speed trap ahead. I'd rather just stick with the red light and speed cameras that are permanently in place. At least then I know I need to slow down or be careful. That's just me, though. My personal opinion, for what it's worth.

Speed Traps or Non permanent speed camera locales

I would love to see them included in the Speed camera poi files. I know it must be cumbersome to undertake but I would rather know that it COULD be there than the alternative.

Great work one and all!

Separate Files

Given a choice, I would prefer this type of data to be a separate file from the camera database. Then we would easily have the choice of installing it or not.

Separate files & Radar detectors

Either way both are great! I just love the fact we have access to theses files thanks for the hard work all!

On an other note I know this isn't GPS related but how may of you use a radar detector? The only reason I don't get one is I had 2 people tell me when they where pulled over and had a radar detector the cop gave them a ticket where in the past when they had been pulled over they never got a ticket when they had no radar detector. Anybody experience anything like this? I think I would rather get a heads up from my GPS. I don't think cops mind seeing a GPS in your window.

Radar detector

I have one but I found that the only time it serves its purpose is when they put a new speed camera up that hasn't been identified yet.

The poi alerts are just so good that my detector is pretty much obsolete with the exception of highway travel.

I downloaded a POI editor to pinpoint the Speed traps but lack the amazing expertise that Ms Poi has in getting them to work with an alert. It shows the Icon but no alert. Note to self... leave it to the experts.

Do the speed cameras in your area use radar? If so, then I can understand your point. However, most of the new cameras that are going up, from what I've heard, do not use radar. As far as I know, none of the speed cameras here in Arizona use radar.

I mostly agree. However, I still see the highway patrol running radar and lidar all over the interstates and state highways here in Arizona and southern California, within city limits and out on the open road.

If you have a Garmin and edit the files correctly, it's actually really easy to get distance/proximity alerts based on your speed or what type of camera it is. Read this:
