This Site Has No SSL Certificate

This site does not have an SSL certificate so all data sent to and from it is unencrypted. Some browsers may be barking about this.

This has been discussed before

Since nothing (that I have ever seen) is of a sensitive nature and mentioned here, there is no reason to think that SSL is necessary. Everything that is posted here is generic and nothing is of a sensitive nature. I have never seen anyone post anything as to their banking info or anything like that of a sensitive nature. This subject has been covered multiple times in the past.

True, but...

I agree that encrypting forum posts probably doesn't provide any "security", but the important issue would be logging in, setting your password, entering you e-mail, etc. That should clearly be encrypted. Now, another member said that when you do any of those things, you are actually connected a login page that is SSL encrypted. I never really noticed one way or other myself, so it might be true.

However, I can go to the "My account" link and see my e-mail address and other info. That page is not encrypted and could be compromised with a "man in the middle" exploit. Really I'm not too worried, but it's disappointing that site doesn't feel the need to just get a SSL cert. It can be done for free.

Y'know

While I understand all the points of discussion

I'm not tremendously worried

The email I use is just a junk email and about once a month I delete everything that comes into it..

And using an email that you might associate with any health, legal, education or financial institutions on this site...

Well... you can fill in the blanks

BTW.. I have 20+ email accounts

So figure it out...

SSL cost

Since activity on this site has dramatically decreased, the cost of a SSL certificate probably an expense that management does not want. Income from ads (or anything) is probably very low or non-existent. Maintaining a website does cost money and you have to pay for a SSL yearly.

My Chrome barks one time, after cookies have been deleted, and once I click on 'Continue to site'(?), Chrome doesn't prompt me again - unless I delete my cookies again.
