POI projects

Has anyone started a POI project for Halal Restaurants in North America. It would be huge project.
Probably the only feasible way would be to split the task and compile POI by city and then combine into one file.
Any takers?

What does everyone think about starting a POI for fish fries? I know people back home that will drive an hour or more for a good one.

Has anyone else taken and converted the RAC file to GPX via Extra POI Editor and mass adjusted to Proximity. Then gotten an error when loading (express)with POI Loader?

It this a Metric,Imperial issue?

My husband loves to take factory tours, and we can easily detour our RV to them along our travels. We have a book or two listing factory tours, but I wonder if there's an electronic listing I can download to my GPS?

There are 3 different In-n-Out POI files here. I gotta wonder why. I;m thinking they should be merged.

I ask mainly because i've verified several myself, and figured i;d check the POI file here...but with 3....i dont want to go through the trouble of doing all 3....

Finding Skate parks can be down right madening.
they are definately not in my nuvi.

I would be happy to work on some POI for a project of this type.

If i read the info on the site correctly, the gentleman that started the Cigar store POI project has not been active in over a year. I did volunteer to unoficially help keep it up to date till he got his computer fixed.

Since its been just over a year, i was wondering if the staff here could be persuaded to let me officially adopt this project.

I mentioned live steam railways as a POI.
Obviously I'm the only one interested in this stuff.
How do you convert the map into a POI file?
Is there a software package or something?
Or am I looking forward to hours of tedious editing?

And what are the file specs.

I've been trying to maintain some POI files for my area, Orange COunty, California (i guess you could call it a suburban area of Los Angeles)

I was not able to locate Hwy rest areas for BC.
Did I miss something or don't they exist? If not, any suggestions as to where I could begin to pull data to start a POI file?

Recently I got into a discussion regarding the physical using of my GPS in New Jersey. Apparently there is a law contemplated/existing regarding the touching of my GPS while moving. I brought up the point that in Nova Scotia, there is a law prohibiting smoking in a vehicle with minors. Also many jurisdictions have laws regarding cell phone usage.

I am currently trying to come up with a POI file with a specific picture for each location in the file. Does anyone know how to go about creating and loading this file? I would really appreaciate any help, thanks!

Thinking about creating a custom POI for this and was wondering if anyone would be interested in it - otherwise I'll just stick to my area and make it a personal poi to save myself the large project.

I was wondering how the POI packages were created? When these packages are created are the multiple source files hidden from view in the regular POI database?

Is anybody working on this? I have one almost done and will send it in soon.

I am currently working on a file for the Panhandle Section of the Florida Birding Trail. Are there folks who would be interested in working on the other three sections (East, West, South)?

I am using TurboCCC's awesome "Extra POI Editor". What a great program.

I recently learned that I did a bad thing while trying to get information about Shell gas stations. The information was available to everyone logging onto the site, but I over used it. I even learned that there are names for people like me doing this type of thing. Many of the POI files on POI-Factory are small and/or local and not difficult to gather information regarding them.

Are there commercially supported poi files maintained by corporations?

I have yet to see one on a company's website, yet it seems a natural for reliably sourced first-hand lists.
