Colorado River

Hello Everyone,

I trying to get some coordinates for the Colorado River from Needles, CA to Parker Dam. I bought a map with coordinates, however they are in NAD 83 and I am not sure if what I am doing is correct.

I have the Colorado 400i with the inland lakes preloaded in the device. When I put the coordinates some are not even close.

Any help would be appreciated.

Colorado

Needles
lat 34.816018
lon 114.607685

Parker dam

lat 34.296256
lon 114.139192

hopefully this helps

Thank you Flip, I bought a

Thank you Flip,

I bought a map that has coordinates. They look like this N34 49.930 W114 36.200. I put them in MapSource and some are not even close. This one is supposed to be Needles Park Marina Launch Ramp. Most of them look ok. I just want to verify the ones I have before my river trip later this year. The map I bought is Fish n Map CO.---Lake Havasu

Thanks

In addition to the map DATUM, you need to be sure that you are using the correct coordinate FORMAT.

Here's a Google Maps link to your coordinates.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=N34%2049.930%20W114%2036.200&o...

Note that all these are the same location.

N34 49.930 W114 36.200
34.832167, -114.603333
34° 49' 55.80", -114° 36' 12.00

Here are some examples of the same coordinates expressed in different formats.

Degrees, Minutes and Seconds
DDD° MM' SS.S"
N 32° 18' 23.1" W 122° 36' 52.5"

Decimal Degrees
DDD.DDDDD°
N 32.30642° W 122.61458°

Degrees and Decimal Minutes
DDD° MM.MMM'
N 32° 18.385' W 122° 36.875'

Be sure that you aren't substituting one FORMAT for another. And be sure that you aren't dropping spaces or substituting decimal points.

correct coordinate format

Could somebody shed some light on coordinate formats and whats right for our GPS and what these different formats mean. I am new to this and don't get it.

Thanks all!

Thank you for your help. I was doing it correctly, however there are some inaccuracies in the map. I used this one:

N34 50.930 W114 36.200
Instead of

N34 49.930 W114 36.200

and it was in the correct location.
