Just tried to update my 780 with the new 4.8. went fine,
Then was going to load POI's from this fine site as I usually do. The Garmin stopped and advised that a new loader was available and I did download and install
Everything works great.

So if you go to the garmin site and it indicates an update, check what it is for first.

Hello all, new boy here.

I`m a total newbie to GPS and have just bought a nuvi 350.

My intended use is for trips on my motorbike.
The question is can I use POI or mapsource etc to create a route on my PC and load that into the nuvi?

My nuvi 880 would not alert on my 'prox'''ty alert' poi's. After discussing with product support at Garmin, we concluded that when loading the 'custom poi files' on the unit select ''manual'' as the preferred method thereby allowing you the opportunity to specify if an alert is required and the distance at which such proximity alert should be given...saved me hours of puzzelment.

I seem to have hit the limit of POI Loader. I loaded approx. 100 CSV files with BMP icons that contain approx. 1 million POIs. All CSV files loaded correctly. However, not all BMP icons loaded. It loaded all CSV files but only 25% of the BMP icons. Assuming these files are named A to Z, the BMP icons stop at G. The POI.GPI file is 70 Mb and I have 700 Mb free on GPSr.

On my Nuvi 885t I have installed poi files but now I notice that when I install a new file, it removes the others I had installed before.
Is this the way it should work, or should I include all the POI's in one file before installing on the Nuvi?

If I download the POIs for speed / red light cameras, should I expect any kind of audible alert from my Nuvi 260W?

After downloading, if I update in the future, does the old data get over-written / replaced, with "gone" cameras delted automagically?

I've installed a bunch of POIs on a 4 GB SD card. Now every time I turn my Nuvi 750 on, it nags me to install the "new extras' onto the GPS so they'll be available if I remove the card.

But I'm not gonna remove the card. And I don't want to install the POIs onto the GPS since that's why I have a 4 GB card!

How do I turn this "nag" off?

Are there any features at this point in the newer Garmins that would lead me to want to replace my Nuvi 350, other than a wider screen?

I am wondering how to mark a location for cordinates to report a radar location. Intersections are easy, I can mark them in Google earth but could not figure out a way to mark a site on a road without any intersection.
It might have been discussed before but I could not find the thread. SO I will appreciate your help.

My Garmin 350 with it's many POI's from this great web site, helped me navigate both Cleveland & Indianapolis where I have friends & relatives. Never been to either before.

Am going to pick up a Garmin and deciding between the 255W or the 265WT. Only real difference i can see is that the 265WT offers built in reciever with lifetime traffic.

The price difference is only $20...however don't quite know how it works or if the reciever is built in or you need to run another cable?

I saved a location on my 255w. I thought I would be able to go back and get lat and long from the saved location, but can't find a way to do it.

What tool am I not using?

HELP new to this and only have very basic knowledge. Downloaded the poi updater from garmin to my laptop, when I try to install it says ok.....but it does not open the intaller.....what am I doing wrong

I recently upgraded to NuMaps Onetime North America City Navigator 2010. I have a Streetpilot 2720, and using Vista 64 bit. I downloaded the Passport.CSV file. Then I used the POI loader to convert it to Mapsource. It tells me the file has been converted, but I can't find it. Has anyone had any success converting these files with the new versions of Mapsource?

I installed a custom POI file on my nuvi 855. Then I installed another. THEN I learned I could categorize the custom POI files using subfolders, so I cleared the entire contents of the device's POI folder and started again. But now I can not load any Custom POIs.... the POI Loader reports they are loaded, but under Extras > custom POIs, the device reports there are no custom POIs loaded.

I've got a 265WT, and for some reason it's showing congestion (roads shown in read) where there is none. This has gone on for weeks now without clearing up on its own.

Has anyone else seen this? Any resolution for the problem?

simple question, i am used to search a destination by zip code in Canada and it works relatively well. I've never found how to do it as soon as I go in the US, I just don't find the same search option.

could you let me know if you found it and how to search by zip code in the Us.

It is being sold through Beach Camera which I have found to be a very reliable seller.

It's a full $100 less than the amazon.com price.
