Garmin talk

I recently received a replacement 765T, and wanted to put some custom POI's back on with POI Loader.

when I went to do so in manual mode, it went fine until the last step, when it gave me an error that it couldn't write to E:\Garmin\POI\poi.gpi.

Map Display
I normally set my map to “normal”. I recently changed it to” more” and I did not see much difference in the display on the screen. I didn’t notice much more roads etc. What setting do you normally use? Does the “most” setting crowd the screen with too much detail and causes a reduction in loading the screen during recalculations?
Any tips to offer?

I've got an older Nuvi 660 and I've noticed the newer Garmin software puts a speed limit indicator on the screen to help you see the speed of the street that you are on.

A friend of mine just bought a NUVI 7xx series. When I took a look at it, it was running the NT 2009 maps. Upon registering at Garmin's site, we were able to download the 2010.10 update! It is almost a 2gb file and takes a while to download, install and update the gps. The resulting installed package can be used (with a key from Garmin) to update additional GPSes or datacards.

I have a Garmin 650 that I downloaded the POI file for rest stops.ALso the file that says "rest area ahead". I would like to change the distance at which it alerts me of the Rest Area. Do I have to reload everything again?
If I have to reload do I have to delete the file first or will the new file write over it?

Costco.com has the Nuvi 855 for $299.95 after a $200.00 rebate, but the reviews I've read on their site are mostly negative. Are there any 855 owners here that can tell me what's wrong with this unit?

I have the Starbucks file loaded and it is working. I can't figure out why it Will alert "You are approaching Starbucks" at least 3 times. This is as I drive by a place that is adjacent to the road I frequently drive. It's not just approach , nearby and leaving as I keep driving. I have all my proxmity distances set at 1320 feet.

just a few minutes ago, I hooked up my 765T and went to MyDashboard on the Garmin site, and it told me that a software update for it was available.

that was not the case yesterday

before blindly clicking to update, I decided to run WebUpdater, to see what it showed

and it showed no new firmware, only a few MSN and voice related updates.

Does anyone else use Speck products besides me? I purchased a case to keep the Garmin Nuvi 265WT nice and secure.

I have a Nuvi 660 and have two audio files loaded to tell me when I approach a red light or speed camera. I know my unit plays MP3 files but the 265wt that my father just purchased does not play the MP3 files.

I am leave tomorrow on a bike ride to a ralley in Tampico, Mx. I would like to pass this route information on to others when I get back.

My Question should I save the route in my Zumo 55o when I get there or just save it when I get home.

I'm a newbie and trying to learn how to download and use POIs. I've downloaded POI files (diners, drive ins, and dives)and see them in the Extras folder. When I try to find one of those restaurants using Where To? will they appear if I use the regular Points of Interest folder and then select Food? I've tried to locate a few.

hey guys, im downloading my free map for my new 765t.. and its been stuck on 21.17mb/1.82gb 1% for awhile now.

connections: 4 <-- what?

but it hadnt moved. its been at 46:04 for almost 23:02 now.

I recently purchased a nuvi 785T, but have noticed that POI icons for places like McDonalds, Wendy's, Starbucks, etc, do not display when coming upon an exit.
I had this feature on a GPS unit that was made by Cobra.

Can someone help me out on how to make the icons appear, or does the nuvi 785T not have this feature?

ok so i was registering my 765t and i swear their direction got me doing the same thing like 10x. and i went 'dashboard' and my product is still NOT registered??!!!

Just tried to update my 780 with the new 4.8. went fine,
Then was going to load POI's from this fine site as I usually do. The Garmin stopped and advised that a new loader was available and I did download and install
Everything works great.

So if you go to the garmin site and it indicates an update, check what it is for first.

Hello all, new boy here.

I`m a total newbie to GPS and have just bought a nuvi 350.

My intended use is for trips on my motorbike.
The question is can I use POI or mapsource etc to create a route on my PC and load that into the nuvi?

My nuvi 880 would not alert on my 'prox'''ty alert' poi's. After discussing with product support at Garmin, we concluded that when loading the 'custom poi files' on the unit select ''manual'' as the preferred method thereby allowing you the opportunity to specify if an alert is required and the distance at which such proximity alert should be given...saved me hours of puzzelment.

I seem to have hit the limit of POI Loader. I loaded approx. 100 CSV files with BMP icons that contain approx. 1 million POIs. All CSV files loaded correctly. However, not all BMP icons loaded. It loaded all CSV files but only 25% of the BMP icons. Assuming these files are named A to Z, the BMP icons stop at G. The POI.GPI file is 70 Mb and I have 700 Mb free on GPSr.

On my Nuvi 885t I have installed poi files but now I notice that when I install a new file, it removes the others I had installed before.
Is this the way it should work, or should I include all the POI's in one file before installing on the Nuvi?
