SD Memory Capacity

The SD memory card I have in my unit - 260W is a 2GB. I asked the store I bought it from if they had the 4 GB for my unit. They said the 260w could not use 4GB. The max it can take is 2GB. I thought I read here that the new updates will allow most of these units to use 4GB SD card. It seems I have it wrong. Any thoughts?

My 760 uses a Transcend 8GB card just fine.
No problems with it.

I don't have a 4gb but I can tell you that the 16gb card I have won't read in the 265W, they are probably similar.

Lots of computers with SD readers have issues with cards over 4gb. So it's probably a good bet that the 4gb card won't work.

But, they are also really cheap now so you don't have a whole lot to lose by buying one. If it doesn't work either return it or use it in a camera or something that will take it.

I am wondering if they were referring to SDHC card would not work for the 260W. I am assuming there is SD 4GB card and SDHC 4GB. They are probably 2 different types

If you look at the last post on the first "page" it seems to indicate 4 GB maximum. There has been considerable discussion on this and other forums about this very concern. Some replies indicate that there is no limit, but "officially" Garmin will tell you 4 GB maximum.

I think anything over 2 GB is actually an SD HC. Also, 4 GB is actually quite a bit of memory.
