I just installed the Kenwood DNX 9140 unit in the car which comes with Garmin navigation in-built. Have a couple q's about this:

I was wondering if there is a way to tell when your POI's are updated. There probably is, but I don't know about it.

Attempted to install latest updated maps for N. America onto my Nuvi 200. Halfway through the install both the Nuvi and computer locked up and I had to reboot. Now the Nuvi displays a "No detailed maps found that support routing...The nuvi cannot be used without them" error message.

I recently purchased the Garmin 765T with the Navteq lifetime traffic. I live in the GTA, Ontario and I commute often on the highways...401,400,407,404 etc.

I was thinking to subscribe to the Premium Clear Channel (TTN) traffic network (USD60.00) instead. My question is....

Can someone else with one of this units try some tests for me?

I discovered last night when testing the combined rest areas custom POI set that search results do not work correctly in one particular case.

I activated a route between Longmont, CO and Richfield, UT, set my search mode to near-my-current-route, and selected the Rest Areas POIs.

What is WAAS / EGNOS? What do they mean and should I enable it on my Nuvi 660?

Recently my 660 has been acting weird. It doesn't tell me to turn within 500ft or turn left when it is time to turn. It outlines it of course on the map, but it won't tell me to turn at all. It does however tells me to turn on Smith Drive within a mile and that is it. Of course when Smith Drive is approaching nothing. If I miss the turn it tells me recalculating. I am lost literally (LOL).

I havent found any info on this. If I already have added my own POIs. Then lets say, I wanted to add Rest Stop POIs later. Do I have to delete all my POIs and then add them all back again, or can I just add the Rest Stop POI stuff to what is already on the unit? Would constructing the POIs into categories (individual folders) enable me to just add, or edit a mp3 alert on the unit?

I have a Nuvi 785T with the 2010.10 map and every now and then I get the "your map is over a year old" does anyone else get this?

First post here. I'm running a Garmin Nav that's built into my Kenwood DNX9140. I have the red light & speed cameras POI installed. It plays the sound, but no icon displays. I used the Garmin POI Loader to get things going.

Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this issue?

My garmin always routes me to my house using a route that is longer than necessary. When I tried the same route on mapquest, the route is similiar to garmin. the problem i realised is that the maps are not recognizing a road that is physically there and being used, hence it is routing you a different way.

I know I have to have my POI's in structured folders, examle

Custom POI\Category (such as food, shopping, etc)

but can I also have subfolders such as

Custome POI\Category\subCategory (such as Fast Food, Discount Stores, etc)

I am a noobie. I have no problem updating my POI's, but when it comes to attaching a custom sound to them, I am lost. I have read the instructions many times and understand that if I my file is named redlight-camera.csv … then I must name the MP3 file … redlight-camera.mp3...However, how do I tell what my file is named? My downloaded file tells me that it is Redlight-Cameras.csv.

I lost all the favorites in my Garmin nüvi 350 due to a unit reset, and have no recent backup

I ran a file recovery utility on the GPS drive unit but couldn't find any bits of a previous current.gpx file where favorites are stored.

Has anyone faced the same problem and found a solution (better file recovery maybe) ?

Hello. I am new here. Thouth this websit say it is related to POI, I found a lot of useful issues beyond that. That's why I want to raise my question here.

Just curious, for those of you who backup your units files before doing an update or loading new maps, how many previous backups do you keep on your computer? Do you just keep the last one and delete all the previous ones? I have kept all of mine, but just checking the folder and I realized it's quite large in size.

When I used Navteq's traffic service, it was easy to determine which radio frequency my GPS was using for updates (ie 101.5, etc).

I now use MSN (much better traffic updates in Toronto). How do I view which radio frequency my GPS is receiving, to give me updates?

Can someone please advise me which Traffic provider works best in Toronto. I live in Ajax and commute along the major highways like Highway 401 etc. I have the Garmin 765T and it came with the lifetime traffic, however, I know that there is also MSN traffic and another one (i forgot the name)....does someone have experience with the various traffic providers for Garmin GPS in Toronto area?
