How do I add alerts on my Garmin Nuvi 255W. I have the restroom POI loaded but I do not see how you add an alert.
and you could also just do a search for "proximity alerts"
Create, or download a mp3, or wav file. Whatever your Garmin supports. Be sure to name the sound file the same name as the poi file. Then, using poiloader in manual mode. Specify how far away from the restroom poi you want the alert to sound. If you want, you can get a bmp icon. Just be sure that all items have the same name.
Run poiloader again but this time select manual mode instead of express.Select distance and put data in ft.This will give you the standard bong alert. If you want a voice alert the 255 will not play mp3 but you can use wav files after doing some set up on your computer.
a.Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono. Wav files are also on site for download.
Select manual mode on poiloader to set speed or distance for alert.
Go to Poi Loader and click manual instead of automagic.
It'll let you create proximity alerts.
