Garmin talk

i have had a Tom Tom for 4 years, just the basic model, recently its been playing up so i bought a garmin Nuvi 245
i know they get good reviews but i cant get on with it,on several trips now its taken me miles out of the way, i cant get it to not use motorways but still try for quickest, it does not show distance to destination just estimated arrival time

I recently broke down and purchased a map update for my StreetPilot 2730, which I have owned since 2006. Initially, I had trouble loading the updated maps due to space constraints, although eventually I overcame this after figuring out how to delete the old maps.

Considering getting one, I have a 265W currently. Interested in the lifetime maps and traffic. Anyone have one that can advise?

I just bought my 3rd Garmin. My first a 360 my last an 850 and this is the 1490LMT.
MI haven't driven around with the new one very much, but have played with it some and I find some of the new features pretty kewl. some of the old features I used to like are gone. are gone.

Last week there was talk about an upcoming new map Release.....

Did it happen?

I have successfully (I think) loaded a couple of POI files and their icons to my 3790T. The icons do appear when I zoom to 200' or closer, but even then they are a mere colored spec that if I did not know what the icon was you certainly couldn't tell. Zooming closer has no effect on the icon size. Is this normal? Is there something I can do to make these appear larger?

i anyone seen the new passort iq radar. i how it stacks up to the garmin units.

Garmin needs to fix the problem of the 3790 not saving poi's when you eject or safely remove the unit from the usb cable. In order for the unit to save the data you have to remove the usb cable from the unit without safely disconnecting or ejecting the unit. Minor problem, but one that needs addressing.

I was wondering whether, whilst in the USA, I should use a voice associated with the USA maps. I am using the English (female) voice at the moment and she has problems with some of the city and town names in the US. Are voices and speech optimized for various regions?

Logged on to Garmin tonight and checked for updates (went there to update MapSource not the 660) and the site said an update for the 660 was available.

Thought I was up to date. Did I miss one? Unit says SW Ver. 4.90. Could have been a Traffic update.

I have had problems with the Garmin instructions on my last three trips heading west on I 70 toward Tulsa while entering St. Louis, MO. I found myself twice on city streets for several miles to acquire I 44. This last trip I ignored the Garmin and followed signs to Tulsa and had a quick trip through St. Louis. Am I hearing wrong or is there an issue.

I'm debating getting a city or two but I'm curious about updates. Public transportation times and routes change pretty frequently so I'm wondering of this includes free updates...or if my NuMaps would get me updates, or if there are updates available at all.

Just curious of other Garmin models has had this problem.Driving South on I-95 entering SC from NC.Better known as South of the Boarder.For a short period of time my unit appears to get lost and has to re-calculate the route.This has happen on two occasions with two different map versions.Only going South.If someone is bored maybe you can do a simulation mode and see if you get same results.Been a

I successfully created two routes on Mapsource. They were transferred to my unit. When I select "Where to" "routes", It says, "No routes are available." Where are they on my 1490?

Would they conflict with each other? Would they both give off alerts? Or does Garmin's version need to be removed?

I haven't connected it to my computer to check for updates for several months. Today when it turned on in the car the 660 went into a "Bluetooth Firmwear Update" all by itself. I find this interesting. Apparently Garmin can communicate with the unit thru satelite. I thought they did this when it was connected to the computer.
