Using old 1999 Topo maps in a Dakota 10

I have ordered Topo Map U.S. 24K Northeast DVD: DVD 010-11318-50, and plan to use it with a Dakota 10. I found that I still had a set of 3 CD's of Mapsource Topo for Western U.S., Eastern U.S., and Alaska & Hawaii U.S. I had used these with a Garmin Map12 that is woefully bad on satellite reception and graphic resolution. This set is labeled Win 95, 98/ NT 4.0 .Version 3.00 Oct. 99. I opened these in Windows XP today and was amazed to find old mine shafts, old rail roads running through Park City, UT, and discontinued dirt roads in VT. Is it safe to load sections of these maps into the Dakota 10? I realize the new DVD Topos will have newer roads and parks, but the topography is the same except for places like lava fields in Hawaii and Mt. St. Helens and some others.

Topo

I can't speak specifically for the Dakota, but I put those same maps on my Colorado with no problems. Should work just fine.

Topo

Thanks for that quackinup. If the Colorado can use them I will give it a try. My factory rebuilt Dakota10 is being swapped for another unit after finding a glitch loading Birdseye. No more rebuilt electronics for me.

Shading

With my bad eyes I found that I could actually see the older topo maps better than the ones that came on my Colorado, mostly due to the 3D shading. i love the 3D stuff but it makes the maps considerably darker.

1999 topos

Using Base Camp I get both the old topos as well as the new 24X Northeast topos. When I get my Dakota 10 back I will see about loading limited topo areas into the unit. I also found there may a way of loading information or images from Google Earth into Base Camp, other than Birdseye. I know you can import waypoints.
