Custom Audible Alerts for POI's

I just recently upgraded to a Nuvi 3790T from my old Nuvi 760. I installed all my own custom POI's including the redlight camera file and a redlight camera .mp3 that goes with it. Both redlight csv file and mp3 file have the same name but the 3790 plays its own alert instead of the custom mp3 I uploaded into the unit. Does anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or maybe the 3790 doesn't support custom mp3 files for audible alerts? Oh, It also doesn't show the custom bmp file of a traffic light that I have in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated....thx

You are correct.3790 does

You are correct.3790 does not support mp3.You need sox.exe and wav file for voice alerts.See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 .Make sure to put the sox.exe in the correct location.Example XP.My computer, click local disk c,Garmin folder. Then paste copy of sox.exe there. You will see many files in this folder including poiloader.

See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/30580 for bmp info.

The biggest problems with the alerts and icons not working are the files not being named the same except for extensions and having double extensions. Double-check each of them. The best way to prevent double extensions is to go to your folder options in the control panel and click view then find hide extensions for known file types and remove the check mark. Click ok.This is for Windows XP.

Got it

OK,,,,sorry. My mistake. In poiloader where it says find device...the device was listed as "I" drive instead of my actual nuvi...I clicked the drop down box and selected my nuvi and all went fine....now to go and test it out.....thanks again for your help

No problem.If you don't have

No problem. If you don't have double extensions and the sox.exe located on computer you should be good to go.Just try it out using simulation mode.

Great

Just drove into Jersey and back....everything works fine! It's a shame that these extra steps need to be taken to produce the same results I had in an older model....Garmin should have made the units capable out of the box!

Right about that.

The newer models are not coming out with MP3 feature. Thanks to one of our members for coming up with the wav file technique.
