Speed Alerts

I have a Garmin 785 Nuvi. Recently it has given me speed alerts. First it starts in grey color and beeps. Then it changes to red in color and still beeps. The alerts show 3mph to 7mph. These alerts occur on many locations in the US. This is NOT the same as the speed camera download although it acts very similar. Question is how did I acquire this new alert?

Most likely you have a file

Most likely you have a file that includes a number in the file name.Example Super 8.In this example just change to Super Eight.

The alerts appear in higher

The alerts appear in higher traffic areas which may be high ticket areas as well. It is as if research has been done on high traffic ticket areas and input in a POI file. I installed similar POI files on my wife's Garmin and now it performs as mine does.

Curious.

Check the filenames

Look in the PC where you keep the POI files you loaded into the GPS. Check all the filenames. None of them should have a number in the filename.

For example, if you have a MacDonalds7.csv file that was loaded into the GPS, every time you approach a MacDonalds faster than 7 miles per hour you will get a speed alert. To fix the problem, rename the file MacDonaldsseven.csv and reload the POIs into the GPS.

If you find none of the POI filenames have numbers, post that result and we will go on to the next step in troubleshooting.

I had the same thing happen

I had the same thing happen to me on my cross country trip.Kept getting alert every time we went back to hotel outside Rocky Mt NP.Thought it was a speed alert. What was happening I was passing by a Super 8 hotel.I had always changed the 8 to eight but had forgot on the last update I done.Look at evey one of them on your computer you use poiloader for to load to gps.

Okay that is what it is.

Okay that is what it is. Thanks. I have my favorites with numbers prior to the name so they are close to the top of the POI list instead of alphabetical. I knew someone out there had to know what is going on. I will eliminate the numbers.

same problem

I have a 765T and I'm getting the same problem, mine is 23 mph alert. I get them in the same area, right next to a 40 mph speed limit sign. don't know why yet.

Number in filename

One of your POI filenames has a number in it. Rename it without the number and run POI Loader to reload the POIs. The speed alert will be gone.
