Miss POI

Just got my new 765t last week. Very nice unit. I see some of the improvements, but still wish they would have better handled the sort order of your favorites.

It defaults by puting them in order by distance. I would rather it be alphabetical. A small issue, but otherwise a great unit.

Cyber Monday has arrived - like Black Friday it has the promise of many great deals. Post what you have found here - including any great pricing on Garmin or other GPS.

After several days of obsessive research, I'm now entering the world of GPS. I finally selected a Garmin 765T, when I found it for 370 @ ABT.com. (Another site had it cheaper when looking through Amazon, but when I went to the check out, the price increased from ~340 to over 450.)

Dec 1 is here tomorrow and still no change LOL

I have noticed a number of red light cameras going up in the Saint Louis area. I was going west on I-44 and noticed a flash on the overpass at Grand blvd(that is dangerous by the way). On my way home I got off at the exit and sure enough a camera was there! I also noticed new ones at Natural Bridge and Union as well. I've been told that there are others on the north side of town so beware!!!!

While spending several days in Ohio visiting my family and childhood home area, I saw a van driving down the road with several roof mounted cameras, pointed in different directions. The side of the van had "NavTeq" on a sign.

This was in Ashland, Ohio. It was going east bound on the east end of town on Main Street (old US-250 before they built the bypass) near US-42.

Hello! I am new here and just became a member of the GPS community yesterday with my new Garmin Nuvi 750 which is simply amazing.

It is really nice to add user generated POIs to my GPS. and i might even make a few custom ones if i ever get the time.

An interesting piece on ABC News last night discussing how companies that are closing stores or going out of business have what are known as "Liquidation Companies" take over the store and reprice the items in the store, usually increasing them to full price & its from there they start discounting.

Last week our company just laid off some workers. It was not a very pleasant scene. Since I work in IS/IT, I had the unenviable task of closing accounts and retrieving computer equipment.

For those of you that are not aware of gpsmagazine.com it provides an excellent overview of the GPS models. If fact, I just reviewed the Garmin 765T Nuvi and I want one. Does anybody know where I can get this model for the cheapest price? Thanks

I have and idea.

Can the site be setup to send an email or alert you when you login into the site that a poi file has been updated? For example you like the rest stop, auto repair and boat ramp poi files. You can setup alerts for those files so you will get notice when they have been updated.

Basically the article says if you buy a new unit, even if it's a discontinued model, the three major makers will give you the newest maps at no charge. However, if it's a refurb, they don't have to supply you the latest maps. Would make me be very careful about buying a refurb unit as adding the price of the latest maps would probably exceed the cost of buying a new unit in the first place.

Hello, I've just inherited a nuvi 660 and am having fun learning how to use it. I was told about this place and how I can get places I like into my gps. Looks like fun!

Well, after the 3rd occurance of me arriving at work and suddenly saying to myself "Self, did you remember to close the garage door when you left?", a light bulb illuminated above my head. Not a huge one, but...

So now I have a GPS alert 200 ft from the house saying what else, 'Did you close the garage door, meatbag?'

Any thoughts on creating a POI database in addition to hosting individual files?

When I am traveling, there are many POI files I am interested in and it would be nice to select a location (like a state or multiple states) and then select various kinds of POIs and extract only those. It would be easier for me, as a user, to manage by selecting by geography by topic instead of only by topic.
