I have and idea.

Can the site be setup to send an email or alert you when you login into the site that a poi file has been updated? For example you like the rest stop, auto repair and boat ramp poi files. You can setup alerts for those files so you will get notice when they have been updated.

What do you think?

Basically the article says if you buy a new unit, even if it's a discontinued model, the three major makers will give you the newest maps at no charge. However, if it's a refurb, they don't have to supply you the latest maps. Would make me be very careful about buying a refurb unit as adding the price of the latest maps would probably exceed the cost of buying a new unit in the first place.

Hello, I've just inherited a nuvi 660 and am having fun learning how to use it. I was told about this place and how I can get places I like into my gps. Looks like fun!

Well, after the 3rd occurance of me arriving at work and suddenly saying to myself "Self, did you remember to close the garage door when you left?", a light bulb illuminated above my head. Not a huge one, but...

So now I have a GPS alert 200 ft from the house saying what else, 'Did you close the garage door, meatbag?'

Any thoughts on creating a POI database in addition to hosting individual files?

When I am traveling, there are many POI files I am interested in and it would be nice to select a location (like a state or multiple states) and then select various kinds of POIs and extract only those. It would be easier for me, as a user, to manage by selecting by geography by topic instead of only by topic.

I have found the TomTom 930T for $399.95 and the Garmin Nuvi 765T for $499.95. Which do you think gets you more bang for your buck? The 930 does include Europe but don't really need it.

I'm surprised he doesn't have the TomTom ONE 125 which may be one of the best deals this year at $99 if you never go to Canada/Alaska.

Also doesn't have the nuvi 205 and lower priced Navigon models.

I am new to GPS systems and just order my first GPS this morning. I order the Nuvi 350 to be exact. While I was reading reviews and watching videos on the 350 I stumbled across this site and I am very pleased with all the information and POI available. I have downloaded 14 POI already mainly all the site seeing ones since photography is my life.

I just looked at the custom POI for Malls of America. When I looked at the cvs spreadsheet I wanted to see where the malls were so I could plan some trips before I downloaded the file. I saw the latitude, longitude, mall name and street address but did not see the city and state. Therefore, without going to another source I have no idea where these are or if they are somewhat close to me.

In the past I have added several custom POI's that are useful to me, however, I was amazed to learn there are over 6 million POI's already on my Garmin Nuvi. For example most hotels/motels are there including their addresses and phone numbers. The same goes for hospitals, auto service centers, etc.

Just last knight the news channel 12 had miths on speed cameras. One that I thought was extreme was you can beat the speed camera by speeding, but you will have to have a vehicle that can move at speed over 171mph and the type of vehicle that can do that is around 100 grand or so.

here's a place that can save you some CASH on speeding tickets even though I KNOW NONE OF YOU WOULD EVER SPEED! Think of it as a savings account and when used in conjunction with the Red light Camera POI file, well heck, you might just save enough money to purchase a brand new GPS hot off the assembly line each year.

I am not sure if you are also aware of tread wear number. You will see a tread wear number on the tire that ranges from 200 to 695. The marking usually will indicate that for each 100 it represent 1 year of tire wear. For a tread wear of 600 it would last 6 years.

I'm a new member and I need your advice on available GPS's. I have three models in mind they are MAGELLAN 1412, GARMIN NUVI 255w and GARMIN NUVI 260w. I am limited to 250.00. I need some input on these models. I don't need any bells and whistle. Thank You
