How many have bought GPS'rs as gifts?

Just curious...
How many have, or plan, to give a GPS as a gift?

Last week, I picked up a 650 for my parents. (Pre christmas etc.. It was a sale and it fit my parent's needs. She didnt want/need traffic. And besides if they needed it they can use the receiver from my 660. Plus, traffic services, in my experience, havent been all that useful anyway.)

Youtube Videos Showing off POI-Factory and GPS

If you find a youtube video showing off the powers of GPS or POI-Factory post them here. They give people an idea how they work and what POI-Factory can offer to them.

Sattelite Problem????

This was taken from a column in Government Executive -

"I just finished reading the 40-page (actually 34 pages, subtracting three pages of acronyms and three blank pages) biennial report on the Global Positioning System, which Defense Chief Information Officer John Grimes submitted to Congress in October, and it looks like we could face a serious GPS satellite gap next year.

Orphaned POI projects

My question is if a POI has not been updated, who do we contact? Miss POI or the author? This author has not been online for over a year so I think the project is now an orphan. I'm updating the file myself, adding locations and incorporating some of the ideas in the 'POI Standards' discussion.

Another study: hands-free cell phones are NOT safer

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27997841/
The linked article's not long, but here's the Cliff Notes version: using a hands-free headset while talking on a cell phone does not reduce errors, and cell-phone use generally is associated with a higher driver error rate than talking to passengers. This is from research just published in the Journal of Experimental Psychology: Applied.

How current is Navtaq with highway changes

In St. Louis they closed a 5 mile section of major highway to bebuild it. Currently, Navtaq routes me around this. On Dec 19 they will open the new rebuilt section and then close another adjacent section of highway, for 1 year to rebuild that section.

This week marks the 2nd anniversary of the COW Award Program.

We are recognizing theagle2 and Kch50428 as our outstanding members this week.

theagle2, You were the lead on the Algonquin, IL redlight camera project. I really appreciate how much time and energy you invested to make sure that those new locations were correctly reflected in the red light camera file.

New 765t

Just got my new 765t last week. Very nice unit. I see some of the improvements, but still wish they would have better handled the sort order of your favorites.

It defaults by puting them in order by distance. I would rather it be alphabetical. A small issue, but otherwise a great unit.

Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday has arrived - like Black Friday it has the promise of many great deals. Post what you have found here - including any great pricing on Garmin or other GPS. grin

Hello

After several days of obsessive research, I'm now entering the world of GPS. I finally selected a Garmin 765T, when I found it for 370 @ ABT.com. (Another site had it cheaper when looking through Amazon, but when I went to the check out, the price increased from ~340 to over 450.)

Just Checking

smile Dec 1 is here tomorrow and still no change LOL

New Red Light Cameras

I have noticed a number of red light cameras going up in the Saint Louis area. I was going west on I-44 and noticed a flash on the overpass at Grand blvd(that is dangerous by the way). On my way home I got off at the exit and sure enough a camera was there! I also noticed new ones at Natural Bridge and Union as well. I've been told that there are others on the north side of town so beware!!!!

NAVTEQ Van Sighting

While spending several days in Ohio visiting my family and childhood home area, I saw a van driving down the road with several roof mounted cameras, pointed in different directions. The side of the van had "NavTeq" on a sign.

This was in Ashland, Ohio. It was going east bound on the east end of town on Main Street (old US-250 before they built the bypass) near US-42.
