Common sense tromps technology

An interesting article on cell phone use, texting, and using a GPS technology to block them while driving.

"Technology to stop phone use in cars flawed"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28735387/

A few quotes I found interesting form a safety expert.

"More and more, we see any solution is, in large part, education and awareness, parents getting involved."

"[Driving and cell phone use can be a bad combination,] but so is putting on makeup and eating a three-course meal."

"I wish technology providers would look hard at the problems before coming up with a knee-jerk solution."

The exerpts reflect my own personal bias, and does not reflect the views or the opinions of POI Factory management or affiliates. redface

Situations

I could see situations where a driver or passenger in a car could be followed by someone intending malice, and they are unable to stop. It would be beneficial if they could use the phone to call authorities.

The law is flexible enough to allow for>>>

Why must the people with

Why must the people with COMMON SENSE always pay the price for the IDIOTS! There will always be people that just can't chew gum and breathe at the same time, and I for one could give a hoot if they fall off the face of the planet, just as long as they don't take me with them.

I SAY give people a TEST BEFORE they can purchase a product or better yet, if you have a bad driving record, oooooooops, no cell phone or GPS for you my friend.

Your Portion Of Light Whether you are a brilliant flame or but a tiny spark matters not-for the world needs whatever portion of light is yours to give.

....

normally i drive shave poke the gps fiddle with the cell etc. and i dont break any traffic laws.
today i went thru 4 red lights, cut 3 cars off, drove in the wrong lane twice, bounced across 3 lanes of traffic once without any signals and took 2 illegal left turns and one illegal right turn in the course of 20 miles. without moving my hands from the wheel or my focus from the road and without fiddling with the gps once.
the difference ? i was in a major hurry today and really really late.

its not the distractions, its the driver. and no amount of legislation can alter that or make the streets "safer".
