This week we are recognizing, Ajasaro!

Ajasaro has been a member of POI Factory for nearly 8 years and maintains 61 POI files.

July is a busy vacation travel month so we appreciate him updating the National Parks, Monuments, Preserves & Historical Parks file to help assist families on the go.

i think (milage based taxes)

This could have some chilling effects on all of us.. Ecpecially if we go to the milage based taxes off of GPS devices in our cars..

Streets and maps

I have enjoyed Streets and Maps with the POI available, I had not updated my maps for a good time. I bought a new computer and went online to get the latest version I was blindsided by the fact that they had discontinued Streets and Maps.

GPS and Ezpass

Another pitfall for GPS users without Ezpass:

http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf/2015/07/4000_driv...

Unless you use the toll road exclusion option on your GPS, or have Ezpass, you could be in for a hefty fine if your unit routes you via one of these Ezpass only exits.

It would be handy for the GPSr to give an alert for such an occurrence.

This week we’re doing a group recognition.

This week’s Contributors of the Week are; canuk, Garmin2597guy and alandb.

We’re recognizing canuk for posting the, Garmin Map Update Frequency As of July 2015 thread, based on Garmin2597Guy’s comments on his exchange with Garmin and alandb for summarizing the info for us.

Side Topic: What is Your Oldest GPS Device?

While cleaning out an old box in the garage over the weekend, I came across my old Radio Shack Digi Traveler GPS "puck" that originally had three cables, one that plugged into a Palm Pilot, one that plugged into a computer serial port, and the third for a pocket PC, but I really don't remember now.

ebay yallstore

Anybody had any experiane with this store? If not GOOGLE it and read the comments, I only wish I had before I purchased an item. The item did not work right out of the box. After much searching called the 800 number and told that that they not sevice this model, "this model is obsolete and we do not sell to ebay" (the unit was shipped from China) first clue.

Lost my Windmill

It has been several months since I have been on the site. Showed up today to get the latest red light and speed cams. In this update process I decided to visit Garmin and download Bert and Ernie voice pack. Voices installed but didn't find the vehicle pack. Any Ideas??

Problem with Discount Tire

Anybody find a problem with the Discount Tire Csv file this week? In redoing the files for my GPS this week, an error occurred in processing the updated files & identified Discount Tire as the problem file.
Thanks.

Garmin 67lm or Tom Tom go 60

Hi I'm planning on buying new gps unit .I currently have factory garmin indash on 2011 jeep. I mainly want to add speed & red light camera poi also school zones. I'm mainly drive in New York & Pennsylvania. I'm looking at GARMIN 67 lm or Tom Tom go 60. Which has more poi or is easier to install or more programs and better maps? Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Happy Independence Day 2015!

Hope everyone is safe and doesn't ingest or imbibe too much this wonderful weekend. Too much is a general term. It differs per person! grin

I'll be filling my backyard and home full of friends and relatives, and we'll be ingesting and imbibing to surfeit! My bonus is I get to roll into bed. No road time for me. The bad part of the deal is I'll be cleaning up the remnants for a week!

Solar Powered Airplane

Techies, take note!

A new world record for solar powered flight is about to be set. 5+ days from Nagoya, Japan to Barbers Point, Hawaii. Only one person on board - the pilot. All on solar cells and batteries.

Should be landing at Kalaeloa airport at about 12 noon EDT. Best to tune in early.

Anyone interested can watch live at:

Happy Canada Day!

Today, July 1, is Canada's 148th birthday. Another reason for all of my fellow Canucks to celebrate - like we need one!

Canada Day in a small town is a blast - watch a parade in the morning, off to the course for a round of golf in the afternoon, a few weenies on the barbecue for supper, and then fireworks at dusk.

Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – July 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.
