GPS and Alzheimer's

My wife has a problem with spatial navigation -- she gets lost readily. I've just bought her a Garmin automotive GPS for our car, hoping that might help. Anyhow, I was just doing some background reading, and I ran across an article that I thought might interest you all. It's about a conjectured link between use of GPS devices and loss of cognitive function in old age.

I-10 Detour southeast of Tucson

The westbound brisge over Davis Canyon, southeast of Tucson, along I-10 will be replaced soon. Westbound traffic will be subject to a 67 mile detour and about a 2 hour increase in travel time.
Not sure when this will begin or how long it will take.

InFocus Kangaroo (another tiny PC)

I spotted this new little $99 PC in the news a couple weeks ago:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=83-722-001

It's a tiny "desktop" PC that includes Windows 10 and is about the size of a large smartphone.

Seems to belong somewhere near the same neighborhood as a "stick PC" or maybe a Raspberry Pi; add your own display, keyboard and mouse.

Looking for explanation for datum and conversions

Good day

Can anyone point me to any resources they found useful in explaining datums ? And/or a conversion utility between them ?

I have several years of data from the mid-90's that reference NAD27 as my hardcopy maps at the time were based on NAD27 and I setup the GPS (a Garmin 45XL) the same. These days I use WGS84 on the new units.

First use of speed alert option with Here maps app

I must have read somewhere (perhaps here) that the Here app has a speed alert option. I tried it with a setting of +6 where the speed limit is up to 50mph and a setting of +8 where the speed limit is above 50mph.

What am I looking at?

After reading about the Russian plane that crashed in Egypt while on its way to St. Petersburg, Russia, I used Google Earth to look at the St. Petersburg airport. What am I seeing?

Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – November 2015

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

how important is it to you where products are made??

It's not that important to me where they're made, provided they are made well.

However, there seems to be one exception--oil filters. Reason being they are important devices. My preference would be Germany, Japan, USA, in that order. The problem is many of them retain their German, Japanese, or American brand names, packaging, etc., and are produced now in other countries.
