How to Get a Reply Notification

When I post on the forum, I have no way of knowing when or if someone has replied. On other forums, I can opt to receive an email notification when a reply has been posted.

Is there a way of signing up for reply notifications on POI?

NoBut

No, but there is an easy way to do your viewing:

1) Be sure you're signed in.
2) Look at the various posts and read those you want as well as create any messages you want to.
3) When done, click unread posts, then click 'Mark topics in ALL FORUMS as read' and confirm by clicking 'Mark As Read.' (The first time you do this, there will be a lot of unread posts. As long as you visit the site and repeat these steps each visit, the number of unread posts becomes fewer.)

Now in the future, always check for new posts by clicking 'unread posts' and when done reading those of interest, repeat the 'Mark topics in ALL FORUMS as read' and 'Mark As Read.'

One other way to reduce the posts offered to you is to Hide the forums you have no interest in; e.g., Mac Topics for PC folks, or the Magellan or TomTom topics if you're a Garmin owner:

http://www.poi-factory.com/unread/settings

Good luck.

I Do This:

I built a link to the POI Factory "recent Posts" page and put it on my browser toolbar. That way, with a single click, I can keep track of active posts without logging on. Posts you've viewed or posted to are in bold print so they are easy to spot The list of active topics usually doesn't exceed the first page unless someone has uploaded a bunch of files. You may have to scan through a few pages if you are looking for an older post though.

It's not as convenient as being notified by email but it's the next best thing IMO.

POI Forum Viewing

Thanks Craig. But I know how to do my preferred viewing once I get signed on. I was just trying to avoid frequent sign-ons to see if I had received a reply to my posting.

Do you log out before leaving The Factory? I don't and my login stays active for maybe a month or more, probably some cookie thing. If you are logging out, I suggest staying logged in and just close the browser or go to another site, then see if you can revisit The Factory later and still be logged in.

I stay logged in

I love reading everything so I check a few times a day if I'm not busy to see if there is something that hits my interest. I stay signed in and at the top right side of the page is UNREAD. I click on that and go to all new unread post.
Then when I get to the bottom of the unread post I am reading there is another link to the unread posts just below. Nice and easy for me... grin

Staying Logged In for Extended Periods??

Other sites I've joined kick you off after a period of inactivity, usually 24 hours or so. They claim it ties up their servers somehow. I know little about the tech side of this and can't comment on the claim. I usually log out as a courtesy.

Maybe Jon or Angela could chime in here and let us know if it causes a problem to remain logged in.

And I..

Once you log in, you can close your browser and when you come back to the site, you should still be logged in (I think there is a cookie that remembers this) I only have to log in once a week when it gets reset. No need to Actually "Log Out", unless your using a public Device that others use.

Thanks for the "Unread Post at bottom of page, Never noticed it.. I always hit back page to get to all unread, but sometime I had to refresh.. I will use this link now!

Also If I see some unread posts that I don't want, I just hit Skip button to make them as read.

For me, System works great!

Okay to Remain logged in

It's okay to remain logged in. Idle logins don't have any significant overhead for our web platform.

Good to Know.

Thanks Jon.

Thanks

Never thought about any problems with keeping logged in. Glad I wasn't doing anything wrong.
