Creating POI files

I guess I need a SD card to load new ones on??

After creating a POI file, how do I associate an Icon for the POI locations? Thanks for any help!

Ok I am still learning all of these POI secrets....I am trying to take an excel file that only has the place names and address, city, state, zip code and convert it into the lat and lon. I have been working on this all weekend long. I did find this website http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoder/ to changed the address into lon and lat, but sometimes it is way off.

Sorry if this question seems simple - new at this. Have a Garmin c340 unit. Saw this site and thought I would venture into new teritory. Downloaded 2 POIs - Seven-Eleven-US.csv and Walmart.csv. PoiLoader said it would install custom POIs into my device. Where did PoiLoader install them and should I want to return them to the default POIs can I do it and where would I get the original files?

I have a Nuvi 350, and I've downloaded the POI Loader from the Garmin website following their instructions. However, when I run the install file it appears to install and then the file disappears. There is no icon on my desktop or file that I can find to open the POI loader.

I am not getting the POI to alert now for some reason but it was before just didn't play the sound file I created. I added specs to the file name and gave it a distance using manual in the POI loader. Did I do something wrong?

Ok I've figured out to put the csv,bmp,Mp3 files in a directory using the same filename and then use the manual option of the POI to load. I am taking a trip and would like to be alerted when I am say within 10 miles of an attraction in the CSV file. I've tested this and it does not alert unless it is directly on the route.

I know I am a newbie at this but, I just can't seem to get the two close. I had the idea to make a POI file for CNG stations (Natural Gas) throughout Cal. I was 80% done when I found one here that was complete. I loaded the file and tried it out. It took me to a dead-end about 2 miles away from the station. I tried mine made from Google Earth and I was some 20 miles away.

I am brand new to the GPS world. I purchased a Garmin c340 and I would like to create a POI of Georgia State Parks...is there an easy to follow step by step guide for this? Thanks

I've used batchgeocode.com successfully a couple of times to create POI files. My most recent project, however, has left me a bit stumped.

I obtained a list of fire stations in a large city. Because it's a city department, the city and state fields are obviously the same. The zip codes do change from station to station, however.

I just received my Garmin Nuvi 680 yesterday afternoon. I created a POI in excel and saved it as a CSV. I took a small BMP and named it the same as the CSV file. Next I took one of the sound files from the site and named it the same as the CSV. This was for a photo red-light on my way home.

I have a custom POI file of my clients addresses. Is there anyway to change the POI alert for these POI's from the default chime to a wav or MP3 on the Navman ICN510.
I would prefer the alert to be something conversational like 'Client approaching in 1 mile'

Does anyone know how to create POI files to use as part of the BMW built in navigation / i-drive?

Basically the format should be in 2 files. One is .udx and one is a .url file.

This site has some information and a script to convert POIs http://www.bmwnavaddpoi.co.uk/imageway.htm but can only be used for POI data obtained from pocketgpsworld.com

I have looked through this forum and have not found the answer, or might have over looked it.

How do I get the BMP file to show up on the map, I can only see the BMP when I tap on the location.

What I would like is to have all the POI's in my file to so up on the map. Is this possible??
