Add ing sound to POI

I just received my Garmin Nuvi 680 yesterday afternoon. I created a POI in excel and saved it as a CSV. I took a small BMP and named it the same as the CSV file. Next I took one of the sound files from the site and named it the same as the CSV. This was for a photo red-light on my way home. When I got to the light, I got the proximity warning (red message at top) at the correct spot and I saw the BMP on the route. But the sound was the alert tone not the sound file. I loaded this using Garmin POI loader using the manual mode and setting a distance for the alert.

I had searched this forum and read where it said to name the sound the same as the the csv file and it would use the sound file. But that didn't work. How do I set it up to use a sound file?

Exact Spelling, etc.

It is very common to have the spelling or case sensativity off. Also, depending on how you use windows it could have a dual extension (like .mp3.mp3 ro similar). To avoid the dual extension turn on extensions in windows.

To do this
1. Open Explorer (not internet explorer, file explorer - quick method: press the Windows key and E at the same time)
2. Goto menu Tools > Folder Options > View tab
3. About the tenth check down should say "Hide Extensions for known file types" ... UNCHECK it.
4. Click the apply to all folders button at the top.
5. Click OK.

Then double check the files and make sure the don't have two extensions (or a missing underscore _).

Found it

I had two dots in the file name and I just didn't see that when I checked. I corrected the filename and reload and did a test drive. The sound worked like a charm. I also created a custom sound file with a text to speech converter and that worked too.

Thanks!
