Adding alert sound question

Just how do I add a sound to my C550. I know it is probably posted somewhere here.

.

Click on the Sounds link at the top of the page. Scroll down that page and you will find the instructions.

Truck Sound

Is is possible to have a sound instead of a voice? I was just curious. If it is possible, a truck horn sound would be great.

Thanks

It can be anything you want it to be as long as it is in the mp3 file format. Have fun creating...the possibilities are endless.

.ogg format

If you own a TomTom and the mp3 ALERT's won't work on your model then convert them to .ogg format using audio conversion software - that should do the trick.

Don't forget to name the ALERT (regardless of format) exactly as the POI it will be associated with before loading it into the GPSr.

POI files and sounds

Does your unit have to be navigating before you can see your icons or hear your alert sounds? I just cannot get my files to work on my unit. (nuvi350)

Do you have alerts for POIs turned on?

Hit 'settings' on the main screen; then, "proximity points" - and turn that on if it's not.

As for seeing the custom POIs on the map, you'll see those depending on the zoom level you're viewing the map - you'll need to zoom in if you don't see them.

Everything is on. I am not

Everything is on. I am not getting my icons to show up or my alerts to sound. I get my POI's downloaded alright though. lol

.

Are you being sure to name the icons and sounds properly and placing them properly in the same directory as the POI file?

The names are case-sensitive. Also, be sure you don't have anything extra in the name such as an extra . or , etc.

As far as the alerts sounding, are you getting the regular "ding" alert or no alert at all? Are you setting alerts when you run POI Loader?

I just had success! Thank

Alert Sounds with an I5

What are my chances of getting my Garmin I5 to recognize the alert Mp3's? Will this GPS support mp3 sound?

.

Does the I5 have an MP3 player?

No, it does not have an Mp3

No, it does not have an Mp3 Player. It may be time for an upgrade

.

Well, you can't get the Custom Alert sounds to work without an MP3 player. At least not currently.

Does the C-530 have a mp3 player, I'm trying to download rest area's sounds

No mp3 player in c-530

kmm7778 wrote:

Unfortunately, the answer is no. You cannot use the sound files with the c-530. It does work with jpeg images though.

Rest Area's Sounds

OK, so I'm new here and probably find conversations interesting of what people are looking for. Of course the most common for travelers in a vehicle, I would expect is food, gas and bathroom. But I was just listened to a CD ('The World is Flat') how technology is shaping our future and how all these conversations we are having will be saved (archived) for the future. Unlike with Christopher Columbus vague historical documentation, future generations will have a lot, but as our generations have tended to do, they got much of history wrong.

So with kmm7778 post being archived for many generations later, I'm sure historians are going to say, "The people at the turn of the century were very interested in restroom sounds. This tended to be most prevalent for people traveling in motorized vehicles with children."

Sorry, my first post has to be a silly one but I'm sitting here thinking how all this new technology is shaping our future and knowing it is just but a speck of all the technological advances that people are yet to experience and may have a similar impact of the telephone. Think about how important the mapmakers were of the past and how this will be taken for granite in the future.

We would love rest area sounds .......

and think it quite the lark. I just want to clarify that these sounds will play with pre-loaded rest area POI in the c550? Or is it required to download the rest areas from someone else's hard work? Actually, I suppose this question relates to all these .mp3's.

I trust y'all are still having fun!

You can use any sound (mp3) with any poi file.

You must however, rename the mp3 to the same name as the poi file, for example;

Rest_Area.csv
Rest_Area.mp3

then of course, place the mp3 in the same folder as the csv file, then load with poi loader in the same manner as usual.

Create an mp3 with the desired sound. Load it onto your GPSr, give it a test run and then pass it on.
That's about all there is to creating one.

Questions about the "train_crossing.mp3"?

Hi All,

Question #1

Will the pre-loaded maps on the Nuvi 670, trigger the "train_crossing.mp3" sound alert?

-or-

Question #2

If I load the file "train_crossing.mp3", does this file have to be associated, with a separate "train_crossing.csv" file, in order to play? If so, where would I find a "train_ crossing.csv file?

Thanks for your time.

Still can't load hear audio POIs in Nuvi 350

I've read this thread many times and tried everything suggested, including making sure that the files are named EXACTLY the same and also making sure that my Custom POI alerts are enabled on my device. When I load them into my Nuvi 350 I never hear the audio warnings. Any other ideas what might be wrong, or what might be checking?

Waypoint/POI sounds for Garmin 276C???

I've downloaded a Redlight camera icon and WAV file to go with it.

Can anyone tell me if I can load them on a Garmin 276C??

I've been reading many earlier posts which in there totality, have served to both inform and confuse me.

THANKS!!

Re: Still can't load hear audio POIs in Nuvi 350

Hi TinLemon,

Inside the Garmin Folder on my hard drive, is a folder named "POI". As an example, I have an .mp3 that plays a sound when I approach a red light camera, that's listed in my "Redlight-Cameras.csv" file.

Redlight-Cameras.csv
Redlight-Cameras.mp3 (the sound file must be in the .mp3 format)

Just make sure your similarly named .csv and corresponding .mp3 files are "both" in the POI folder, then run the POI Loader software.

Other than that it "should" work...

HTH (hope that helps)

Same problem with Nuvi 350

I'm also having the same problem with a newly purchased Nuvi 350. I'm beginning to think the Nuvi 350 can't play different audio warnings for Proximity Alerts. You can assign different mp3 files to POIs, and they will show up as sounds in the Custom POI database when you are browsing, but it will not substitute them for your own sound when using it as a Proximity Alert. sad

new traffic camera sound.

I finally got to it and added our new traffic camera alert sound that thehill sent me a while back;)

Hello MM,
Just wondering how you know so much about gps's... You're like a walking gps encyclopedia! Very impressed with your insight on so many things gps related. Are you a tech support person or repairperson? I consider myself very techsavvy and it boggles my mind how many answers you have. Keep up the good work!

C550 alert messes up mp3 player

I loaded an alert on my c550 to warn me of 'speed traps' It worked as it should (I think - it repeated the alert 2 or 3 times). The problem I had after that was with my mp3 player. It would not play 'all' or 'random' It would only repeat the same file over and over, no matter what combination of 'repeat' & 'random' buttons selected on the players main screen. After I uninstalled the alert mp3, all was OK again. Any ideas or suggestions?

getting alerts sounds to work

Hello, I am new to the forum and would like some help setting up my Garmin Nuvi 680. I downloaded the red light cameras file and put it into my c:\POIS directory... I also downloaded the .BMP file and .MP3 files, renamed them to match the red light camera filename and then used Garmin's POI loader to upload them to the 680. When I view the map, the BMP shows up as it should at the locations of the RLC's but the alert sound doesn't seem to work. alerts are enabled but still no joy, any ideas?

Thanks,
Tron

.

Are you getting the default alert tone on your unit when you approach one of the redlight camera locations that is in the database?

If not, you need to double check that you have enabled the alerts on your unit.

If you are and the Custom Alert sound isn't working, double check to ensure that you don't have a double file extension (ie redlight.mp3.mp3).

And be sure that the MP3 is in the same folder with the POI file you your computer.

Not that you must be on the road that the POI is on and traveling in the direction of the POI for the alert to sound. If you have the word "redlight" in the file name, then you should get an alert 0.25 miles from the location.

got it

It is now working, just as advertised... I noticed that the alert sounds continuosly, I guess that is a setting in the settings page... Thanks for the information!

update

I added our 11th traffic camera alert today;) I also reorganized them on the red light camera page so they are in numerical order (yes it was bugging me) I also finally added number 9 to the red light page, not sure how I went from 8 to 10, maybe this was a real life example of how seven ate nine;)

Miss Poi

You can thank rythmtip for the newest sound;) Love that voice.

Speed Trap

Good Evening,

I have a c550 Garmin. It is new and I do not understand how to set a speed. I'm following an article by Sam Penrod on Garmin's POI Loader. He says to place the POI name and SPEED in cell C. I'm using Excel and saving the files as SPEED.CVS.

Could someone please give me some advice. I'm not having any other trouble with programming the files I want other than the speed.

Thanks
