Alerts for POI near route but not on route

Ok I've figured out to put the csv,bmp,Mp3 files in a directory using the same filename and then use the manual option of the POI to load. I am taking a trip and would like to be alerted when I am say within 10 miles of an attraction in the CSV file. I've tested this and it does not alert unless it is directly on the route. Is there any way to make it alert when not directly on the route on the Nuvi 680. Also I do not get the sound file played as the alert only the tone. I've checked and the sound file is named exactly the same as the CVS file.

Needs to be on the Route

It needs to be on the route. I don't know of any workaround.

Look on page(s) 37 / 38 of the manual

or, from main menu > wrench > settings > Proximity Points > Alerts > Audio

That may help. If not, quadruple check the file names.
